Jumps jockey Braidon Small has a collapsed lung and cracked ribs after a fall at Warrnambool on Sunday.

Small and Connor Brassil were transported to hospital for scans after separate falls.

The Victorian Jockeys’ Association confirmed on Monday that Small, who has overcome two bouts of brain surgery to remove a tumour, was suffering from a collapsed lung and cracked ribs following scans.

Small was dislodged from Aaron Purcell-trained Enzed Magic in Race 2 — a 3200m maiden hurdle.

Brassil was injured in the fourth event, coming off the Ciaron Maher-trained Custom Of The Sea in a 3450m steeplechase.

On Monday, the VJA said Brassil had a small fracture in his lower back and he was expected to be sidelined for a month.

Jockeys Luca Remondet, Darryl Horner Jnr, Paul Hamblin, Will Gordon, Tom Ryan, Cillin Leonard, Aaron Kuru, Chris McCarthy and Campbell Rawiller avoided injury after being unseated from their mounts in separate races.

Unfortunately, Fatigues had to be euthanised due to the extent of injuries sustained in a fall in Race 1. All other horses avoided injury.

Gordon and Kuru registered impressive wins on Fabalot and Kuru Leaderboard respectively.

Champion jumps jockey Steven Pateman returned to the saddle on Sunday — after an 11-month disqualification — aboard Chains Of Honour, who placed fifth in a 3200m hurdle.
