Patient punters can earn themselves a big result in the last race while a galloper on the comeback trail could show up on debut for top trainer Ciaron Maher at Saturday’s Mornington Cup meeting.

News Corp form analyst Brad Waters takes an early look at Saturday’s Mornington Cup meeting.

BEST BET

FRIGID (Race 10, No.8)

Frigid’s two runs back from a spell have been full of merit and she’s drawn perfectly to break through at Mornington.

VALUE BET

PINTOFF (Race 9, No.5)

Resumes from a long spell for the Ciaron Maher stable but his jumpouts indicate the smart galloper can fire fresh in the Hareeba Stakes.

RACE 1: 11.50AM ASSET PAINTING SERVICES MORNINGTON SIRES (1200m)

Good 2YO race to start Mornington Cup Day. SNACK BAR (2) raced much closer when a strong winner at Ballarat second-up and could continue to improve. Stablemate BRIGHELLA (3) ran on well to score on debut at Cranbourne and will be better for it. IRREFUTABLY (9) swamped her rivals to win debut at Geelong and could measure up. PERSPIRATION (1) has been solid at both runs and is worth including.

SUGGESTED BET: Snack Bar to win.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Perspiration $2.80 – $2.60.

RACE 2: 12.20PM EVERGREEN TURF HANDICAP (1600m)

Difficult race but RIVERINA CYCLONE (3) could show up fresh over a distance at which he has performed well in the past. BURLINGTON GATE (10) was unlucky not to win first-up and will be fitter for it. DISTURBIA (8) rises in class but is racing well and likes to roll along up on the speed. DANE ON TOUR (6) has been freshened since her last run and gets back to her home track.

SUGGESTED BET: Riverina Cyclone each-way.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Mawkeb $3.20 – $3.10.

RACE 3: 12.55PM CATANACH’S JEWELLERS HANDICAP (1000m)

RANVEER (5) has had his share of issues but he’s a smart sprinter when right and has gone well at the jumpouts. PRINCESS DUHALLOW (12) should have finished closer at Yarra Valley so watch for her late here. MANHATTAN THUNDER (7) was a game winner at Cranbourne and could measure up to this. FIELD OF FLUTES (4) has plenty of pace so should be in this for a long way.

SUGGESTED BET: Ranveer to win.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Title Fighter $8 – $5.

RACE 4: 1.30PM MORNINGTON PENINSULA NEWS GROUP HANDICAP (2000m)

GALERON (3) did a good job to run on well to be beaten narrowly first-up and will only be improved for that and 2000m is perfect. BRAYDEN STAR (2) will be fitter for two runs back and raced like he wanted this trip second-up. SUNSETS (6) drops back to 2000m for this and can improve. ARRAN BAY (4) is racing in great heart and must be respected again.

SUGGESTED BET: Galeron to win.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Arran Bay $4.80 – $4.

RACE 5: 2.05PM POLVIN FENCING HANDICAP (1200m)

Probably the hardest race of the day but DUBAI POET (2) raced consistently in harder races last time in and trialled well leading up to this. PANETLONE (14) has drawn wide but has the ability to threaten if things go his way. VELOCE CARRO (19) rises in class but is consistent while SHOW SOME DECORUM (1) is the class of the field and should be respected.

SUGGESTED BET: Dubai Poet each-way.

TAB MARKET MOVER: End Assembly $5 – $4.20.

RACE 6: 2.40PM QUAYCLEAN MORNINGTON GUINEAS (1600m)

RIPROAR (5) showed he was one to follow with his dominant first-up win at Geelong while he has won over the 1500m. GRID GIRL (8) has been a revelation since landing in Australia and can reproduce her last-start win at Pakenham. SALSITA (7) is up in grade but is hard fit and racing in good form. STYLISH (9) was too good at Pakenham and should push forward again.

SUGGESTED BET: Riproar to win.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Stylish $10 – $6.

RACE 7: 3.20PM NO FISS EVENT HIRE HANDICAP (2000m)

Hard to go past the smart SEA WHAT I SEE (3) despite the import rising in weight on her strong Flemington win over 2000m. MUSGRAVE (17) could produce a surprise after a desperately unlucky run at Yarra Valley on Good Friday. SAVOIR FAIRE (6) can improve on his promising first-up second at Pakenham. MOYA LASS (15) has drawn poorly but she’s a smart mare that will be fitter for her first-up win.

SUGGESTED BET: Box quinella 3, 6, 15, 17

TAB MARKET MOVER: Sea What I See $2.20 – $1.80.

RACE 8: 4PM LISTED MORNINGTON CUP (2400m)

She’s yet to win over 2400m but DENY KNOWLEDGE (5) can push forward and give a great sight in front around the tight Mornington circuit. FUTURE HISTORY (2) will be fitter for a sound second-up run at Caulfield and 2400m will suit. FIRST IMMORTAL (4) should be forgiven for his second-up run while the distance rise suits. CAPTAIN ENVIOUS (1) improved sharply to win second-up and is a stayer on the rise.

SUGGESTED BET: Deny Knowledge to win.

TAB MARKET MOVER: First Immortal $5 – $4.60.

RACE 9: 4.35PM LISTED SPORTSBET HAREEBA STAKES (1200m)

Open edition of the Hareeba Stakes but PINTOFF (5) has shown plenty at the jumpouts for new trainer Ciaron Maher and could pinch this fresh. CURRAN (6) is always thereabouts in this type of race and is a first-up winner. JIGSAW (1) raced wide and fought on well at Yarra Valley and has drawn for a much softer run here. SAVANNAH CLOUD (2) is worth thought after his last-start win.

SUGGESTED BET: Pintoff each-way.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Grand Impact $6 – $4.80.

RACE 10: 5.10PM CLEANAWAY HANDICAP (1600m)

FRIGID (8) can end the day on a high for punters after two excellent efforts at The Valley and Caulfield to start her campaign. DASHING (4) races well over 1600m and will be primed after two runs this time in. GREGOLIMO (2) showed ability in the spring and can measure up to this fresh. QUEEN TAKES KING (12) could add value to exotics with a bold fresh run.

SUGGESTED BET: Frigid to win.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Frigid $3.80 – $3.40.
