Fresh performer Firestorm has jockey Jason Collett quietly confident she can blaze a trail to another first-up success in Saturday’s Group 2 $300,000 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens.
The Chris Waller-trained Firestorm is resuming over the shortest trip she has ever raced over since moving to Australia from New Zealand but Collett believes she’s more than capable of adding to her stellar fresh record.

Firestorm has won three of four first-up and is a $7.50 chance to bolster that record.
“Her first-up record is really good and I think her trials were really good coming in,” Collett said.
“She went to another level last prep.
“She is on the way up really in my opinion and is a sneaky chance I reckon.
“I think she ticks a few boxes and while it may be a touch short, her first-up record is pretty dynamite so I am thinking she is a very good chance.”
Firestorm won her first two starts over 1500m and 1900m last preparation before running a creditable 11th in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap as well as midfield finishes in two Melbourne stakes runs.

• Schiller swoops in for Hawkes clean sweep bid
She is one of three Waller mares resuming in the Millie Fox with Scarlet Oak ($6) and Hinged ($11) both lining up while Michael, John and Wayne Hawkes-trained Makarena holds favouritism at $2.
“Scarlet Oak probably has the class factor but is coming off the long lay off,” Collett said.
“Hinged is always there or thereabouts.
“And then there are a few that are lower rated for her so I don’t think it’s an overly strong stakes race.”
She holds nominations for the Group 1 $4 million Doncaster Mile and Group 1 $1m Queen Of The Turf Stakes for the upcoming carnival.
Waller had also accepted Firestorm for the Asahi Super Dry Benchmark 100 Handicap (1400m) but has opted in favour of a stakes test first-up.
