Jockey Daniel Stackhouse has his sights set on consecutive 100-win seasons, including a personal best metropolitan mark.

Stackhouse, who won the Victorian premiership last season with 127 winners, is currently third in the state title race with 94 victories, behind tearaway leader Damian Lane (128) and Billy Egan (100).

Stackhouse banked a long price treble at Flemington last Saturday aboard Sneaky Sunrise ($4.80), Navy King ($17) and Amberite ($21).

“I feel as the season is starting to wind up I am riding a lot better and getting better rides, even results on outsiders as well, I feel this is the best I have ridden in my career,” Stackhouse said.

“The more I’m getting into my career the better I’m starting to ride, I can’t put anything in particular on it, but my body (weight) is really good, which probably helps a bit.”

The 33-year-old Kiwi expat has a stronger hand on paper at Sandown on Saturday, including last start winner Jabbawockeez, Rheinberg, Brigantine and Flattered among the nine rides.

Jabbawockeez was an impressive come-from-behind winner at Warrnambool against a track pattern.

“He was off the bridle the whole way, I was surprised how far back he was and then I gave him a couple with the left hand and he actually really picked up and surged into the race,” Stackhouse said.

Stackhouse has made good a focus on metropolitan success and cemented a place in the top-10 with 34 winners – up from 26 last season – with more than two months to go.

Ironically, apprentice jockey and partner Tatum Bull could play spoiler for Stackhouse on Saturday.

Bull’s key rides include Tacumwah, Miss Aria, Georgie Get Mad and King Magnus.

“We’ll see who pays for dinner,” Stackhouse laughed.

“She’s going super, I’m very proud of her, she’s getting some momentum in town and riding winners in the country as well, she’s on a good little run at the moment.”
