A remorseful Blake Shinn has pleaded guilty to careless riding which led to him falling on Fasuto at The Valley on Friday night.
Shinn unsuccessfully argued the incident was the result of John Allen (Home Rule) and Damian Lane (Fetch) shifting out ahead of him in the field.
“I wasn’t forcing out, I was putting myself in a position,” Shinn said.
“I thought I was riding quite carefully under the circumstances.
“We see this happen every race, this is one in a 100 races I’ve clipped a heel, which is unfortunate.
“The fact they’ve shifted is the whole reason I clipped a heel… Yes I was angling to the outside but I hadn’t pulled the trigger.”
Chief steward Rob Montgomery said the rule existed to ensure rider and horse safety.
“The problem with what we’re faced with is you’ve put yourself in danger, you’ve fallen,” Montgomery said.
“Luckily the horse has come away unscathed. We got to protect you, we got to protect the field, we got to protect the horses.”
Shinn accepted responsibility after the inquiry.
The 14-meeting sanction is expected to start after Sunday’s races at Sandown, which would rule out Shinn from competing in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes meeting at Flemington next Saturday.
