GOULBURN

BEST BET

Race 2 No. 1: Duke Of Bronte

Riding a wave of success and while this is harder than last start, he is the one to beat.

NEXT BEST

Race 4 No. 5: Victory Roll

Won two from three for the new trainer and was excellent at the provincials in between.

VALUE BET

Race 7 No. 12: Webejamin

Could make the case to argue she should be two from two. Nothing will finish faster than her.

QUADDIE

Race 5: 1, 7

Race 6: 1, 2, 5, 6

Race 7: 1, 9, 12

Race 8: 4, 6

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Jean Van Overmeire is within sight of 100 winners for the 2023/24 season.

TAMWORTH

BEST BET

Race 4 No. 2: Blazed Prince

Promising horse who only needed one more inch and he wins here first-up.

NEXT BEST

Race 3 No, 2: Gotta Fly

Former Sydneysider who has run well in all four runs since he relocated to Tuncurry.

VALUE BET

Race 2 No. 1: Deep Rouge

Has a big weight but earned it. Last start winner who has trialled well since.

INSIDE MAIL - GOULBURN

RACE 5

Super Norwest, the valuable fourth generation direct descendant of the great Salsabil, could be saved for the TAB Highway at Randwick on Saturday, Make no mistake, every one of the trainers in this race will hope she goes there and not here. Greg Hickman has Unwritten in a good frame of mind and body at present. This is a nice race for him and winnable so long as Super Norwest is absent. Epaullo Creed has some excellent numbers right across the board.

Bet: Super Norwest to win or if scratched quinella 1, 4

RACE 6

Penitent is in work at the right time of the year given her penchant for wet tracks. What is it about greys in the wet? This Steve Englebrecht-trained mare beat a good field on a Heavy 8 to win her Maiden at Kembla and was runner-up here at the track and trip first-up. Pretty Vegas is very good on Heavy tracks and is an absolute specialist at 1000m too. Drawn 3 which is a plus surely. Titan Star has won nine races and was third at Hawkesbury at start 105.

Bet: Penitent to win, quinella 1, 6. Daily Double 1st Leg (6), 2nd Leg (6)

RACE 7

Webejamin is a well-bred Starspangledbanner filly; her third dam is the Ingham’s grey Surround Stakes winner in 1990, Ochiltee. As for Webejamin, she has finished runner-up at her only two starts at Goulburn and Hawkesbury respectively and flashed home at both. Mile this time might be the key. So You Think filly Cheergal has placed at three of her four starts, two of them were in town. Zale is never really far away. Annoint has come back well this time.

Bet: Webejamin to win, box trifecta 1, 3, 9, 12

RACE 8

Trezzamina was masterfully handled by Jeff Penza and well-placed by her trainer Pat Murphy when she won her 1425m Maiden at Moruya as recently as last Friday. She won pretty easily so it is not like she is backing-up after a gut-buster. She is back home, 1400m again, Penza again, only this time with a dud draw. The Favourite Sun just doesn’t run bad races, in fact, he runs a lot of good ones. He seems also to appreciate the sting out. I’m Not Leaving and Sycamore are in the mix.

Bet: Trezzamina to win

INSIDE MAIL - TAMWORTH

RACE 5

Off The Press and Up The Country meet up again having both gone around in the same race at Scone on June 11. Long story short, it was massive leader-bias on the day so we are best to mark ‘up’ both horses considerably and bear in mind that Up The Country was beaten a lip. Draw favours Off The Press. Brett Dodson’s Cool Man did the job on debut on the Heavy 8. Can’t knock a debut winner but this is a good looking Class 1.

Bet: Off The Press to win

RACE 6

Bijara is an All Too Hard mare whose numbers tell it better than any words can so here goes; Track; seven starts two wins and three placings, Trip: 12 starts two wins and five placings, track and distance combined five starts for two wins and two seconds. Wow. Here’s one word I can add - Bullock. Tuncurry resident Toomuchinformation is a mostly consistent mare who is arguably at her best at 1200m with the sting out. Starane and Spirit Of Pluto are not without claims.

Bet: Bijara to win. Daily Double 1st Leg (13), 2nd Leg (13)

RACE 7

Hope Uno has the 1000km round trip from Kembla to Tamworth ahead but she has done it before. She actually broke her Maiden status at Tamworth back in October 2022 on a Heavy 8 and Anna Roper was on her that day as well. Roper’s only other ride on the Theresa Bateup trained mare was a second. Clearly the one to beat. That said, Flying Banjo won’t have to travel 500km to get here, he’s trained locally by Stephen Dixon. Only won once in 12 starts here but the last start second to Magic Pharoah reads well.

Bet: Hope Uno to win

RACE 8

Sukida is a daughter of Widden’s Supido; her fourth dam is none other than Denise’s Joy which is more or less, a head start in life. You wouldn’t see many better trials than what this Sam Kavanagh-trained three-year-old handed in when she won her Wyong heat. Arrowfield/Bullock runner Vercelli hasn’t been seen since her two-length fourth in a very strong maiden here on Christmas Eve. Rembroy is a local who has placed at three of his five starts at the venue.

Bet: Sukida to win
