Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot tuned up for the Magic Millions carnival with a brilliant barrier trial win at Hawkesbury on Monday.

Lady Of Camelot settled in the slipstream of the speedy Bonita Queen early in their 800m heat before cruising past the leader in the final 200m to win by nearly a length.

The top two finishers put nearly four lengths on their rivals with Lady Of Camelot stopping the clock at a fast 46.12sec including a stunning closing 600m sectional of 32.22sec.

Bonita Queen is dynamic out of the barriers and it was no surprise when she led with Lady Of Camelot her immediate chaser as the duo quickly opened up a margin on their four rivals.

But Lady Of Camelot, with jockey Tim Clark keeping the filly under a tight rein, showed her class and quality to reel in the leader effortlessly and win the trial with plenty in reserve.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Lady Of Camelot didn’t win in four starts during spring but she was twice Group 1 placed when third in the Moir Stakes and Coolmore Stud Stakes, and was a brave fourth in The Everest behind Bella Nipotina.

“I thought it was an excellent trial from Lady Of Camelot,’’ Bott said.

“She’s in great shape so I expect her to come through that well and we will finalise her program now.’’

Lady Of Camelot is the $2.80 favourite with TAB Fixed Odds for the inaugural $3m Magic Millions Sunlight (1100m) slot race at the Gold Coast on January 4.

Bott confirmed there has been slot-holder interest for Lady Of Camelot in The Sunlight.

“It would be one of the main options for her and was the reason we wanted to trial her again,’’ he explained.

“I don’t think there is enough time between now and the Gold Coast race to give her another either trial or race but her Hawkesbury trial effort was all we wanted to see from her, she is on track.’’

The Waterhouse-Bott stable also had Townsend and Converge trialling at Hawkesbury over 1000m in separate heats with both being aimed at the Group 3 $250,000 Summer Cup (2000m) at Royal Randwick on Boxing Day.

Townsend ran a close second to Bosustow in his trial while Converge also ran second, albeit eight lengths behind good sprinter Ka Bling.

“I thought Townsend in particular trialled very well,’’ Bott said.

“He had excuses last start (third in the ATC Cup behind Floating) and he is on target for the Summer Cup.

“Converge ran over 2000m for the first time in quite a while (second in ATC Cup) and he ran an encouraging race. He is more effective on top of the ground.’’
