Early Oil: Mitchell Freedman-trained Belle Et Riche the best bet for Saturday’s Bendigo stand-alone meeting

An eye-catching effort at Flemington has primed a Mitchell Freedman-trained mare for a breakthrough win at Saturday’s Bendigo stand-alone meeting.

BELLE ET RICHE (Race 7, No. 7)

Belle Et Riche charged home from a poor draw at Flemington second-up and will be fitter again. She can race closer to the speed from barrier one.

VALUE BET

WOLFLANDS (Race 6, No. 10)

Wolflands has won first-up and his effort in a recent Flemington jumpout indicated the sprinter could show up fresh at Bendigo.

RACE 1: 12.05PM CARLTON DRAUGHT BM78 HANDICAP (2400m)

Tough start to an extremely difficult day for punters. DIVUS ROMULUS (14) is a developing stayer that has posted wins at both runs this time in and can measure up to this. PRISMATIC (7) will be fitter for two solid runs over shorter trips and has drawn well. VIVIDEEL (10) raced on the speed and fought on well at Sandown and should be thereabouts again. SAMUEL LANGHORNE (16) was a fighting winner at Sandown and likes 2400m.

SUGGESTED BET: Divus Romulus to win.

RACE 2: 12.35PM APIAM ANIMAL HEALTH VOBIS GOLD RUSH (1000m)

BOLD BASTILLE (4) is a short-priced favourite but brings good form to this race with easy wins in stakes races at her last two runs. SERIAL CELEBRATOR (12) has jumped out well and is worth including at odds here. WAR COUNCIL (1) showed ability in Sydney and went well in a Flemington jumpout. COSMIC RIDE (10) has drawn well and shown a little bit at the jumpouts.

SUGGESTED BET: Box trifecta 1, 4, 10, 12.

RACE 3: 1.10PM SMARTLOANS BENDIGO BM70 HANDICAP (1300m)

Very difficult race but ANGRY SKIES (6) wasn’t far away when resuming and rates a good each-way chance in this. MANSIERE (15) has produced three good efforts this time in and should be respected again. MAKUSHA (10) is fresh for this but could pull out a strong run on his home track. ELECTRIC IMPULSE (5) is a smart mare that can race well fresh.

SUGGESTED BET: Angry Skies each-way.

RACE 4: 1.45PM IMMIX METAL RECYCLED RIGHT BM70 HANDICAP (1600m)

Import GOLDENSTATEWARRIOR (11) makes his local debut here after showing ability at the jumpouts. Expecting a bold fresh run in this. SUNSOURCE (13) is a smart galloper that ran on well at Flemington first-up and expecting another strong run. COCO SUN (16) won well first-up and was scratched from a race on Wednesday for this. LET’SBEFRANKBABY (1) ran on well at Caulfield first-up and can race well despite the big weight.

SUGGESTED BET: Goldenstatewarrior to win.

RACE 5: 2.20PM BALGOWNIE ESTATE BENDIGO 3YO HANDICAP (1100m)

MOBY DICK (10) steps up in class after two outstanding wins at Pakenham but he’s a smart type that should measure up to this. SHESALLSHENANIGANS (2) won at this meeting last year and wasn’t disgraced down the straight first-up. SKYBIRD (1) has plenty of weight and hasn’t raced over 1100m but has the class to figure fresh. EXTREMELY ROWDY (7) is a smart filly that must be respected.

SUGGESTED BET: Box trifecta 1, 2, 7, 10.

RACE 6: 2.55PM OFF THE TRACK BM84 HANDICAP (1100m)

Difficult race but WOLFLANDS (10) might go around over the odds. He was consistent last time in and went well at the jumpouts leading up to this. IS IT ME (12) has drawn poorly but he’s consistent and can run well despite the gate. SEMILLION (3) wasn’t far away at Caulfield first-up and can improve here. SENEGALIA (4) was a game winner at Flemington and should have every chance in this.

SUGGESTED BET: Wolflands each-way.

RACE 7: 3.35PM CATANACH’S JEWELLERS BENDIGO GOLD BRACELET (1400m)

Expecting another big effort from BELLE ET RICHE (7) after excellent efforts at Echuca and Flemington. She’ll be hard to beat from the inside draw. PAPILLON CLUB (3) was solid at The Valley first-up and is a second-up winner. PICAROON (5) is worth another chance after missing a place at Flemington first-up. LADY JONES (10) ran on well behind the smart Waltz On By first-up and will be fitter.

SUGGESTED BET: Belle Et Riche to win.

RACE 8: 4.15PM LISTED BENDIGO GUINEAS (1400m)

Big field but this looks the right race for ROLL ON HIGH (8), who wasn’t disgraced against older mares at The Valley and drops in class for this. SUNSHINEINMYPOCKET (1) has met every challenge to date and should measure up to this. WAR MACHINE (12) was an easy winner at Cranbourne second-up and has drawn well. LADY IN PINK (9) has returned in good form and is worth including again.

SUGGESTED BET: Roll On High to win.

RACE 9: 4.50PM LISTED GOLDEN MILE (1600m)

GOLDEN PATH (17) ran on well when beaten less than two lengths when resuming but drops to 54kg and has the perfect draw. EUPHORIC (16) wasn’t far away at Flemington fresh and is a second-up winner. FOXY FRIDA (3) was scratched from a Group 1 race in Sydney for this and has a great record at Bendigo. MAKRAM (4) will find this easier than his strong performance in Group 2 company at Flemington.

SUGGESTED BET: Golden Path to win.

RACE 10: 5.35PM JACK ELLIOTT HANDICAP (1600m)

Another raffle to finish the day but GREEN FLY (7) could finish off strongly with the fitness gained from a solid first-up run at Flemington and an excellent second-up record. LETHAL THOUGHTS (12) is consistent and shouldn’t be far away again. MAKTOOB (1) is a talented galloper that has the ability to fire fresh. EXTRATWO (15) should have every chance to post her third win in a row.
