Boom sprinter Bustling will make his first public appearance in Sydney next week as trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr map out a three-race plan to have the former WA weapon primed for the $20 million The Everest.

Price and Kent Jr will bring Bustling up from Victoria to trial at Rosehill Gardens on Thursday week after the former West Australian star excelled in his maiden public outing for the stable on Monday.

The son of Frosted has gone under the radar since he was the first selected for The Everest in May.

Bustling set the track alight in five starts over in the west with four victories including runaway successes in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate and Group 3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes.

It caught the attention of The Everest slot-holders Max Whitby, Neil Werrett and Col Madden, who snapped up the gelding for an undisclosed seven figure sum to target him at the richest race on turf.

Price and Kent Jr are yet to finalise exactly how he gets to The Everest but it’s likely he will go into the race third-up.

“We think it will be first up on the 14th (of September) in the Run To The Rose but at the moment we will just get through the trial and work it out from there,” Kent Jr said.

“He is a good horse and we just want to get him to The Everest day in peak condition.

“I think we will get there third-up and the beauty of having him already in the race is that we can just time our run.

“We don’t have to impress anybody early, we can just get the horse peaking on the right day.”

Bustling has got the tick of approval from star Victorian-based hoop Jamie Kah.

The exciting three-year-old had a quiet hitout at Cranbourne over 800m on Monday, finishing third behind Moir Stakes favourite Estriella while being kept under a tight grip from Kah.

“He was very good,” Kent Jr said.

“He ran third under a hold and Estriella was having her second trial with more intent given she returns in the Moir Stakes next week.

“Jamie Kah was happy with him and the way he felt. She said she likes him more and more every time she rides him.”

Price and Kent Jr are yet to lock in a jockey for Bustling’s upcoming spring campaign and will make a decision closer to his return date.

“He has got 53kg in The Everest so there is obviously already a smaller pool of jockeys to choose from and there is also the Caulfield Cup on the same day,” Kent Jr said.

“Jamie is obviously a light rider but everything else will pan out in the coming weeks.”

At this stage only two horses have been locked in for The Everest with last year’s runner-up I Wish I Win (Trackside Media) also snapped up.

Bustling is a $15 contender with bookies to win The Everest.
