Bookmaker Ladbrokes announces Bella Nipotina as its runner in $4m The Quokka

Manikato Stakes winner Bella Nipotina now has the inaugural running of The Quokka on her autumn agenda.

Corporate bookmaker Ladbrokes announced Bella Nipotina as its runner in the $4m Quokka (1200m) on April 15.

Bella Nipotina notched her maiden Group 1 win with a dominant four-length romp in the rescheduled Manikato Stakes two starts back then was beaten less that two lengths in the Champions’ Sprint at Flemington at her last run.

Co-trainer Ciaron Maher said several Quokka slot holders inquired about Bella Nipotina before connections closed the deal with Ladbrokes.

“I’ve had numerous phone calls about quite a few horses in our stable,” Maher, who trains Bella Nipotina in partnership with David Eustace, said.

“Bella’s been the one that everyone wants to talk about.

“What she did to them in the Manikato, that just shows her quality.

“I was having a look at the market the other day and having a look at the opposition and I thought she would be a real live chance in a race like that.

“She just seems to get that little bit stronger and that little bit more seasoned every time she comes in.”

The announcement prompted TAB to promote Bella Nipotina to $4.50 second favourite in Quokka betting behind star local filly Amelia’s Jewel, who is the $4 favourite.

Maher and Eustace are likely to tailor Bella Nipotina’s preparation to also tackle the Group 1 William Reid Stakes over 1200m at The Valley in March.
