Champion jockey Blake Shinn has been suspended for 10 meetings for careless riding at Caulfield.

Shinn will start the penalty after riding commitments in Sydney on Saturday, including Mayfair in the Group 1 Golden Rose.

He also rides Estriella in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes at The Valley on Friday night.

Shinn will miss Group 1 Turnbull Stakes day at Flemington on October 5, with the penalty from September 29 to October 7.

A remorseful Shinn pleaded guilty to the mid-range careless riding charge on Saturday.

“If I knew she was there I wouldn’t have tried to correct it to change legs, I was only trying to do it to get the best out of my horse,” Shinn said.

Shinn’s mount in the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes, Run Harry Run, turned “awkwardly” around the home bend a prompted the champion jockey to correct back to the rail.

The action caused interference to favourite and winner Another Wil, ridden by Jamie Kah.

The horses bumped about 300m from the finish.

“I heard a call from Jamie and I relieved pressure … I wasn’t aware she was there until I heard the call,” Shinn said.

RV chief steward Rob Montgomery asked Shinn why he didn’t stay wide as opposed to driving back to the rail.

“That’s when Jamie gets into all sorts of strife,” Montgomery said.
