Adam Scott claims back-to-back Cathedral Invitational titles after stellar two rounds

Adam Scott has ended his Australian summer campaign with a dominant performance at the Cathedral Invitational.

Adam Scott joked that he had started to play well at the wrong time of the year after making a successful defence of Cathedral Invitational crown.

Having won the previous staging of the two-day event at the Cathedral Lodge and Golf Club in 2023, the 2013 Masters Champion backed it up on Tuesday and Wednesday with rounds of 65 and 64 to finish at 15-under and win by four strokes from Ben Honkel and Marc Leishman.

A shot further back at 10-under were Cameron John and Daniel Gale, with Lucas Herbert finishing at nine-under.

“It was really sweet,” Scott said after his victory at the Greg Norman-designed layout north-east of Melbourne.

“Going out there with a chance to win is fun. It’s a two-day event, but winning’s winning. I managed to play a really nice back nine to get it done.

“This course is tricky and although I’ve won here before, I’m still learning little nuances here and there.”

Scott’s win came on the back of his fifth-placed finish at last week’s Australian Open at Royal Melbourne, and his effort to place seventh at the previous week’s Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland.

“At least until Christmas, (the golf clubs) have got to go away,” the 45-year-old Queenslander said.

“I’m just starting to play good too, so that’s a shame, but I think I can pick it up, and I’ll have a good year next year.”

Meanwhile, Leishman is back in action on Thursday for the start of the Victorian PGA at Moonah Links.

As part of the tournament’s pro-am format, LIV star Leishman will team up with his 13-year-old son Harvey.

Leishman’s father Paul will be caddying for his son in what will be a real family affair.

“We’ve been really looking forward to this week,” Leishman said.

“It’s going to be a new experience for us and a fun one as well. I’ve been hitting the ball well so hopefully that rolls over into this week.”

Players joining Leishman in the professional field this week include DP World Tour member David Micheluzzi, and the event’s defending champion, Cory Crawford.
