THE Reds and Red Devils roll on.

Liverpool and Manchester United continued on their winning ways, although the latter was lucky to survive a late scare from Stoke before holding on for a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford.

Liverpool was more convincing in running out 3-1 winners over Leicester, Steven Gerrard getting on the scoresheet as he returned to the starting line-up.

CRYSTAL PALACE 0 ASTON VILLA 1 at Loftus Road

Christian Benteke scored his first goal in nine months as Aston Villa beat Crystal Palace 1-0 to end its nine-match winless run in the Premier League.

The Belgium striker — returning after a three-game ban — calmly sidefooted home the winning goal from the edge of the area in the 32nd minute, lifting Villa away from the relegation zone with a first victory since September 13.

Palace slipped to its fifth loss in eight games and could only create half-chances as it lacked a quality final ball.

Andreas Weimann was denied by Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni late on as Villa threatened a second goal at Selhurst Park.

BURNLEY 1 NEWCASTLE 1 at Turf Moor

Burnley moved out of the Premier League relegation zone after stretching their unbeaten run to four matches with a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle United.

George Boyd put the promoted side ahead with a low strike from outside the box in the 34th minute at Turf Moor, with Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse equalising for Newcastle early in the second half.

The draw, in the teams’ first meeting since March 1983, enabled Burnley to climb out of the bottom three at the expense of Hull City, who visit Everton on Thursday morning, and left Newcastle five points below the top four in 10th place.

SWANSEA 2 QPR 0 at Liberty Stadium

Late goals from Ki Sung-yeung and Wayne Routledge saw Swansea move back into the top six of the Premier League.

Swansea’s 2-0 win at home to Queens Park Rangers meant the visitors remained pointless on the road this season.

QPR goalkeeper Rob Green had produced what looked like a sterling performance to secure a first away point of the campaign for the west London club.

The former England international made a series of fine saves to thwart Wilfried Bony, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Routledge at the Liberty Stadium.

But there was nothing Green could do to stop Ki’s 78th-minute shot which flew in via the aid of the post — only the South Korean midfielder’s second goal for the club and his first on home turf — before the Swans doubled their lead five minutes later when Routledge fired into the bottom corner.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION 1 WEST HAM 2 at The Hawthorns

The threat to West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Irvine’s position worsened as West Ham came from a goal down to win 2-1 and leave their opponents just above the relegation zone with one win in their last eight Premier League games.

The Hammers — whose goals came from Kevin Nolan and James Tomkins — by contrast are in fifth place in the table having made their best ever start to a Premier League campaign and have lost just once in their last eight league games.

West Brom — whose woeful home form has seen them record just three wins in their last 22 games at the Hawthorns — broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the game as Craig Dawson rose to head home Graham Dorrans freekick and become the first player from his side to score in the Premier League in five games.

Nolan levelled 10 minutes from the break, the former Newcastle midfielder tucking the ball home after Ben Foster had saved from the scorer’s former Magpies teammate Andy Carroll.

The visitors had all the momentum and it was no surprise when they took the lead as Tomkins popped up to get on the end of Stewart Downing’s cross and headed into the net from close range right on the stroke of half-time.
