Socceroos winger Brandon Borrello has moved clubs in Germany in the hope of earning regular first-team football.

Having made just eight appearances for Bundesliga outfit SC Freiburg last season, Borrello has joined second division team Fortuna Dusseldorf on loan.

“I’m really looking forward to playing for Fortuna in the coming season,” the 25-year-old former Brisbane Roar star told the Fortuna Dusseldorf website.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t play very often in Freiburg, so I started looking around.

“I know that Fortuna is a large and traditional club. When those responsible contacted my advisor and me, I wanted to play for the club straight away.

“I’m happy to be here and look forward to getting started.

“I want to score and (set up) as many goals as possible. The main thing is that we perform well, and if I can be a factor in that, I’m more than happy.”

Coached by former Manchester City striker Uwe Rosler, Fortuna Dusseldorf were relegated from Germany’s top-flight last season.

Dusseldorf’s sports director Uwe Klein praised Borrello’s style and versatility.

“Brandon Borrello will do our attacking game good with his mentality and aggressiveness,” Klein said.

“He can be used on both wings and offers our coaching team even more options on the offensive.

“We are very happy that Brandon will join us in the coming season.”

The German second division season starts on September 18.
