THE Premier League title race is wide open, according to Robbie Slater, but it’s a different story at the other end of the table and he doesn’t have good news for two Socceroos.

Here he not only picks his Premier League teams to beat, bolter to watch out for and the clubs set for relegation ahead of the season start on Saturday.

TOP SIX

Manchester City — It was unusual for Pep Guardiola to go trophyless last season and I can’t see that happening again. He’s made some big signings — Benjamin Mendy from Monaco, Kyle Walker from Tottenham and Danilo from Real Madrid — and already has quality all over the park. Yes, they’ve lost some players too, but they still have the prolific Sergio Aguero and have a squad capable of challenging in the Premier League and Champions League.

Manchester United — Jose Mourinho made the big call to let Zlatan Ibrahimovic go, but he clearly couldn’t see much a future for the 35-year-old at the club. Romelu Lukaku is a very good signing and Nemanja Matic is a brilliant pick up from Chelsea. So Mourihno has strengthened in the areas he’s needed to and they look stronger. For the first time in quite a while now, which is unusual to say about Manchester United, they’re going to be challenging for the title.

Chelsea — A new era will be ushered into Stamford Bridge without the club’s talisman John Terry, who has joined Aston Villa. Chelsea were a powerhouse last season, especially when Antonio Conte changed to a back three there was simply no looking back. Diego Costa is still there, despite all the rumours, but those could return to unsettle the dressing room.

Liverpool — Liverpool have added Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke, but they haven’t signed nearly enough players to be challenging for the title. And if they lose Coutinho between now and the end of the transfer window they won’t reach the top four, perhaps not even the top six. Coutinho must stay and must stay fit.

Arsenal — It will be another season of pain for Arsenal with possibly more protests over Arsene Wenger. The Arsenal manager should have left after winning the FA Cup at the end of last season. They have added Alexandre Lacazette, who is a good signing, but they will also need to hang onto Alexis Sanchez.

Tottenham — It looks like a mistake that they haven’t strengthened their squad, though perhaps they still will before the season kicks off. Spurs had a terrific season last season and had it been any other season they would have won it. They lost fewer games than Chelsea and conceded fewer goals, but Chelsea were rampant. This season could show how painful it was to miss out.

BOLTER

Everton — Ronald Koeman has done a fantastic job and the signing of Wayne Rooney is magical for the player and the club. They’ve already got off to a good start with a 1-0 win in the Europa League and Koeman has used the money from the signing of Lukaku really well by also bringing in Davy Klaassen from Ajax and Jordan Pickford.

RELEGATED

Huddersfield Town — Aaron Mooy has been one of their big signings and he was terrific last season, but it’s going to be a tough one in the Premier League for them. Make no mistake, for teams like Huddersfield success is staying up. They’ve got a difficult season ahead and they’re going to be down at the bottom fighting for their lives.

Brighton & Hove Albion — Although in my bottom three, I see this as a great opportunity for Socceroos goalkeeper Mat Ryan as he’s going to be very busy. Even if they don’t avoid relegation, Ryan will have plenty of opportunity to show what he’s about.

Burnley — It was a decent season for them last season, but this one will be far tougher and they haven’t signed the quality to keep their status in the Premier League. Also, as a former Blackburn Rovers player I’m duty-bound to put them in the bottom three.
