SERGIO Aguero could miss Manchester City’s tour of Australia in July due to the Copa America and a desire to ensure the forward is fit for the start of the next Premier League season.
The Argentine missed the start of the current EPL campaign because of an interrupted pre-season following his country’s run to last year’s World Cup final.
“I think it was important for him to have a good pre-season after the World Cup because he came a few days before we started the Community Shield and the Premier League,” City manager Manuel Pellegrini told the Manchester Evening News.
‘Kun’ was also sidelined for more than a month around the turn of the year because of a knee injury, a loss that contributed to City’s title defence fading in the face of Chelsea’s dominance.
Having suffered a history of injury niggles, Aguero was put on a tailored training program.
“I think it worked because this year he didn’t have any muscle problems,” Pellegrini said. “He had a problem with his knee, but that is bad luck.”
The Copa America begins on June 11. City plays AS Roma on July 21 and Real Madrid three days later, both matches are at the MCG.
