Premier League: Socceroos goalkeeper Mat Ryan slots straight back into Brighton side for midweek clash

No sooner has Mat Ryan finished with the Socceroos in the UAE then he is straight back into Premier League action with Brighton. And another Aussie star is set to return as well after an injury-enforced absence.

Mat Ryan will be back between the sticks for Brighton on Wednesday morning.

Brighton manager Chris Hughton says Socceroos goalkeeper Mat Ryan has returned from the Asian Cup in very good shape and will go straight into the team for Wednesday morning’s (EDT) EPL clash with Fulham.

And in great news for Huddersfield Town’s battle against relegation Aaron Mooy is expected to return to contention for new boss Jan Siewert’s first game in charge against Everton.

Ryan has been absent for Brighton since Boxing Day due to the Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

The 26-year-old, who missed six fixtures in all competitions during that time, had previously been an ever-present for the Seagulls in the Premier League.

However, Hughton has no concerns about the condition of his number one.

“He’s fine. Maty’s one of these ones that because of where he plays his international football is used to travelling,” said Hughton.

“We’ve had this for the last couple of seasons where he’s played on the back of a return flight from Australia a few days before.

“So, as regards him and his physicality, he’s in very good shape.”

Albion, in 13th place, have a seven-point cushion on the relegation zone ahead of the trip to Craven Cottage and are 12 points above second-bottom Fulham.

Meanwhile, Mooy has been sidelined with knee ligament damage since early December, meaning he missed the Asian Cup.

It remains to be seen whether the Socceroos playmaker starts for the EPL clash but Siewert said on the official Huddersfield twitter feed: “I don’t want to give the details of my line-up away before the @Everton game, but @AaronMooy is close to a return.

“It’s been great to have him on the pitch with us.”
