Manchester City claims the Barclays Premier League title with a 2-0 win over West Ham United

AS IT HAPPENED: Manchester City clinches the EPL crown with a 2-0 win over West Ham on the final day of the season.

Richard Bayliss explains how the final day of the Premier League unfolded as Manchester City sealed the crown.

MANCHESTER City secured its second Premier League title in three seasons by comfortably defeating West Ham United 2-0 on the last day of the season.

Liverpool was still in with a shout of claiming the title before the simultaneous kick-offs, and held up its end of the bargain with a 2-1 win over Newcastle United at Anfield.

But that result was academic, as goals to Samir Nasri and skipper Vincent Kompany saw Manuel Pellegrini’s side lift the English league title for the fourth time in their history.

In the day’s other matches, Tottenham ran riot over Aston Villa to secure it’s place in next season’s Europa League alongside fifth placed Everton and FA Cup finalists Hull City.

Manchester United won’t be playing European football for the first time in 25 years next season, as a 1-1 draw with Southampton saw Ryan Giggs’s side end the season a disappointing seventh.
