Matildas and Brisbane Roar forward Sharn Freier will join German club VfL Wolfsburg at the end of the A-League women’s season.

Freier, 23, has signed a deal with the Frauen-Bundesliga outfit that lasts until June 30, 2028, with the transfer securing the Roar a club record women’s fee.

“I’m already looking forward to joining VfL Wolfsburg and I’m excited about the prospect of playing in a league outside Australia for the first time,” Freier said.

“To be able to play for such a successful club with so many great players fills me with pride and gratitude.
“I can’t wait to take on this new challenge and meet my future teammates. I’m also looking forward to learning a new language and experiencing German culture.”

Freier debuted for the Matildas in April last year against Mexico, and has scored two goals in nine appearances for the national team.

She debuted for the Roar in December 2020, and has made 57 appearances for the club.

“My time at Brisbane Roar has definitely been such a highlight,” Freier said.

“It’ll be sad to leave but Brisbane will always be home to me.”

VfL Wolfsburg director of women’s football Ralf Kellermann said: “Sharn has international experience and has been performing at a consistent level for club and country for many months now.

“She’s ready to make the step to a top European league and we’re very happy we were able to bring Sharn to VfL”
