‘Embarrassing’: United States left a laughing stock as crisis deepens

The United States has been blown apart 4-0 by Switzerland, leaving the team at crisis point ahead of a home World Cup next year.
The USMNT was outclassed in a brutal 25 minute period where Switzerland piled on four goals in the first half.
Goalkeeper Matt Turner was powerless against a hapless defensive line that was sliced open like a hot knife through butter.

It was the United States’ fourth consecutive defeat — the worst run the country has experienced since 2007.
The result leaves the USA in complete shambles heading into their CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign, which begins with a match against Trinidad and Tobago this weekend.
Wednesday’s game in Nashville, Tennessee, was supposed to be a comfortable final pre-tournament friendly for the USA, but it quickly turned into a bloodbath when Dan Ndoye opened the scoring in the 12th minute.
Michel Aebischer scored 10 minutes later. Breel Embolo made it 3-0 after 33-minutes and Johan Manzambi scored with the best strike of the bunch to make it 4-0 after 36 minutes.
The crowd were left booing the home team after Manzambi’s strike smacked into the back of the net.
There were more boos as the team walked off the field at halftime.
The United States have a 5-5 record under veteran manager Mauricio Pochettino, who took over the top job after the team’s first-round elimination at last year’s Copa America
Football fans in America were ruthless in their criticism of the team.
American great DaMarcus Beasley said: “I don’t even know what to say. I’ve never seen a U.S. team play that poorly in a half of football, ever.”
Former American international player Stuart Holden wrote on X: “4-0 down at halftime. Well aware who is and who isn’t there, but this is embarrassing.”
Matt Contento wrote on X: “This is our turd generation.”
Football commentator Mike Ryan Ruiz wrote: “Thus far, Poch is every bit the disaster hire I feared him to be.
“As poor as the USMNT has looked in quite some time.”
Sports commentator Micah Adams wrote on X: “The USMNT is an absolute joke.
“12 months out from hosting a World Cup and there is more uncertainty with the state of the program in at least two decades.
“Can’t do it now. It’s too late. But barring a miracle showing next summer, EVERYONE at US Soccer gotta go.”
The United States is hosting the World Cup tournament in 2026 along with Mexico and Canada.
The tournament will feature 48 teams and conclude with the final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 19.
