THE Socceroos are into the Asian Cup final!

Ange Postecoglou is one game away from accomplishing his mission to win the continental crown on home soil thanks to a 2-0 semi-final win over United Arab Emirates in Newcastle.

A blistering start sealed the result for the hosts, with Trent Sainsbury and Jason Davidson scoring their first international goals to have the green and gold up 2-0 within 14 minutes.

United Arab Emirates, with Omar Abdulrahman pulling the strings, enjoyed a few bright passages in the second-half trying to chase the game. But outstanding performance from Sainsbury and Matthew Spiranovic were the cornerstone of the win.

The hosts had the chance to go 3-0 up in the second-half and couldn’t capitalise, but it was immaterial as the green and gold progressed to back-to-back Asian Cup finals after succumbing to Japan in the decider in Qatar in 2011.

The result saw the Socceroos notch a third clean sheet of the campaign, while winning with a ninth and 10th different goal scorer across the five matches played.

Australia face South Korea in the decider in Sydney on Saturday night, while UAE meet Iraq in the third-placed play-off in Newcastle on Friday night.
