Former Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou has hit the ground running in Scotland as he prepares Celtic for next month’s UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Having served his quarantine period, Celtic’s new manager has overseen his first session at the club’s Lennoxtown training complex.

“Every training session and every day’s going to be important,” Postecoglou told Celtic TV.

“It’s been a tough three weeks to get here but super happy to be here.

“I had to do to all the quarantine and follow all the protocols but just being here now it exactly where I wanted to be.

“I knew that until I got here it wouldn’t sink in that I’m the new Celtic manager and I can get cracking and start working.

“The people here are fantastic people and I’m looking forward to working with everyone.

“Everyone keeps warning me about the weather but I don’t think they take time just to look around.

“For me it all looks pretty beautiful at the moment so it’s nice.”

Postecoglou was delighted that Celtic staff, players and fans could finally get to know him.

“Ultimately people want to get to know me,” he said.

“It’s one thing to have ideas and talk about what you want to do but they need to meet me and understand me as a person as much as a manager.

“You can’t do that unless you do that in person. We’ll start that process now.”

Celtic meet Midtjylland, the Danish club of Socceroos attacker Awer Mabil, in the first leg of a two-legged Champions League qualifier on July 21 at Celtic Park.

Before that they have scheduled friendlies against English clubs Sheffield Wednesday (July 8), Charlton (July 11), Bristol City (July 15) and Preston (July 18).

“I don’t look too far ahead,” Postecoglou said.

“I know we got the friendly games but I want to just get out on the park and work with the lads and work with the staff, and get them to know me and what my expectations are as a manager.”
