MELBOURNE City captain and new father Scott Jamieson has put family before football in giving up the chance to lead his team to an A-League title.
Jamieson, who missed City’s 2-2 draw with Adelaide United last week after returning to Melbourne from his side’s NSW hub for the birth of his first child, will remain in Victoria with his partner Vicky and their newborn son Cooper rather than travel back to Sydney for the completion of the season.

“In what has been a tough decision, I want to let you know I won’t be returning to the hub to finish this season out,” Jamieson said via social media.
“My family is starting this new chapter in crazy times and I need to be here to support them.
“What gives me comfort in this decision though is knowing that the staff and players who are in NSW representing the club have been brilliant from day one of pre-season until now and I have full faith that we can finish what we set out to do.
“I appreciate all the messages and look forward to supporting the lads with you all. COYCB.”
Midfielder Josh Brillante will take over City’s captaincy duties from the 31-year-old left back.
In a statement, City said: “The club would like to wish Scott, his partner and Cooper the best as they support us as a new family from home.”
City meet Western United in the final game of the regular season on Wednesday night at Jubilee Stadium.
Regardless of the result, City will finish the second on the ladder and go into straight into a sudden-death semi-final on Wednesday week in which the winner qualifies for the August 30 grand final.
