THE Aaron Mooy-Huddersfield Town fairytale will continue after the promoted club won the race to sign the midfielder.

Huddersfield is believed to have paid Manchester City at least $16.93m (£10m) in a deal that will rise with add ons.

It is a record-breaking transfer fee involving an Australian player with Mooy, 26, signing a three-year deal.

Mooy starred for Huddersfield after joining on loan from City, winning the Terriers’ player of the year award as they secured an unlikely promotion from the Championship.

“Playing for Huddersfield has been a fantastic experience this year and thanks to the fans, (manager) David (Wagner), the owner Dean (Hoyle) and all the team, I’ve grown to feel part of the Terriers family,” Mooy said.

“Now we’re in the Premier League, not only do I get to play at the highest level of football, but I continue to be part of a team that achieved something special and we will continue on that journey together to try and achieve much more. I can’t wait to play in front of the Huddersfield fans again next season.

“I’d like to thank my former club, Manchester City, for the support throughout my time in the Championship and during my transition to Huddersfield.”

Mooy’s Premier League debut will be away to Crystal Palace on 13 August.
