Wanderers signing Radoslaw Majewski looking forward to lighting up Bankwest Stadium

Western Sydney Wanderers’ Polish signing Radoslaw Majewski is excited about his challenge, and looking forward to helping the club’s new stadium ‘get loud.’

New era for the Wanderers

For the whole of his career Radoslaw Majewski has been a fans favourite – now the Polish attacker hopes his penchant for long-distance bombs and defence-splitting passes will earn him plaudits in Parramatta.

Western Sydney’s latest signing arrives early next month to be a leading light in Markus Babbel’s revolution at the Wanderers, one of potentially five new foreigners with a brief to restore the glory days to the red and black.

Speaking for the first time since putting pen to paper on a one-year deal – with an option to stay longer – the 32-year-old revealed his wife’s newly opened restaurant in Poland will keep her there while he explores a new frontier in the A-League.

Instead his focus will be on lighting up the new Bankwest Stadium as the Wanderers return home after miserable three years on the road.

“That’s what excites me – having 20,000 fans in a stadium, playing for the fans, and when it gets loud because you do a piece of skill or you make a tackle,” he said.

“I am taking a risk, but everywhere new is a challenge. It’s not easy, if I said to you to come to Poland, I have a job for you, then you would have to talk to people to find out if it is right for you, speak to your family.

“I spoke to guys in England where I used to play, it’s very similar, you even drive on the same side. And of course I spoke to Adrian.”

That’s Adrian Mierzejewski, player of the season in Sydney FC’s colours and who gave the A-League a glowing reference to his friend from the Polish national team.

“Adrian did very well for Sydney, and we are similar players though he is left-footed and I am right,” Majewski said.

“He works a bit less in defence than me, I think I prefer to run more. But it’s difficult to describe myself, maybe the easiest way is for the fans to watch me.

“I only know what Adrian has told me about the league, that it looks good on TV, lots of people come. I don’t know the style exactly but that’s something for me to learn.”

It seems fairly certain the Wanderers faithful will see plenty of the long shots that have peppered his career, very often with spectacular success.

“It is my talent, I suppose, but not every time – anyone can make a bad shot too,” he said. “The goals I scored this year (for Pogon Szczecin in Poland) were pretty nice, also the ones I scored for Nottingham Forest when I played there.

“Now this is something new for me. I only had the proposal (to come to Australia) 10 days ago so now I have to get everything sorted. And when I get there, I want to find out everything about Australia.”
