MELBOURNE Victory’s rock-star recruiting spree is reflected in News Corp’s annual top 50 A-League players list with the incoming 2018 World Cup pair filling the top two positions.

Keisuke Honda, the man that’s dominated on the grandest of stages in the UEFA Champions League and at FIFA World Cups, is unsurprisingly no.1 after becoming one of the biggest signings in A-League history.

Sweden goal-poacher Ola Toivonen may be comparatively understated but purely on playing credentials he is one of the highest calibre players to arrive in Australia.

Sharpshooter Bruno Fornaroli has carved a reputation as one of the most exciting and dangerous strikers in A-League history, hence he is Melbourne City’s highest ranked players at no.9.

Riley McGree may still be a teenager best known for his scorpion heroics in last season’s finals series, but NewsCorp’s soccer experts predict him to be one of the breakout stars of the season, with the midfielder featuring at 17.

New signings Raul Baena (Victory), Ritchie de Laet (City) and Georg Niedermeier (Victory) are at no.20, 21 and 27 respectively while Victory’s Lawrence Thomas is the highest ranked goalkeeper in the list, at 27.

Michael O’Halloran, Bart Schenkeveld, Mark Birighitti (City), Kosta Barbarouses, James Troisi and Thomas Deng (Victory) all feature in the list.
