SCG bosses will keep a watch on the stadium’s turf in the next few weeks ahead of Sydney FC preparing to play one of their most important games of the season there in less than a fortnight.

More than 3000sq/m of the SCG turf was relaid less than two weeks ago after a Super Rugby match between the Waratahs and Reds on March 9, when running repairs of the pitch where required during stoppages in play.

Sydney host Melbourne Victory on April 6, and the winner is likely to be in pole position to claim second place on the A-League ladder.

Before then the ground will host the Sydney Swans against the Adelaide Crows in an AFL clash this weekend.

And the Roosters play the Broncos in an NRL game just two days before the Big Blue.

Amid ongoing concerns over the workload for the pitch while Allianz is rebuilt, the SCG Trust has told its various tenants the pitch will be returfed as needed.

Sydney are due to play Perth there as well on April 18, though the Trust is confident the newly relaid surface will cope with the traffic. The SCG keeps a significant quantity of ready-to-play turf at a nursery.

Work is carried out to re-turf sections of the SCG after it was damaged from a rugby game.
