The striker, who joined Sydney two years ago, will be in Sky Blue again next season after playing his part to help the club claim the league-grand final double.

Simon joins marquee star Milos Ninkovic in announcing he will remain and the core of the team, including Alex Brosque and Bobo, are also expected to stay on.

Simon says it’s a testament to the culture that has been created at Sydney that most players have opted to remain.

“This year you could really feel the camaraderie among the boys,” he said. “I think especially after the success we’ve had, everyone really wants to stay on and stick together and have future success together.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time there and the achievements we’ve had, Sunday especially was an unbelievable feeling. We’ve really created a family culture at the club and to be able to continue my time there with a great bunch of boys and staff, I’m really looking forward to next season.”

It’s been a week of celebration after Sydney beat Melbourne Victory to add the A-League championship to their Premier’s Plate and Simon says the players are looking forward to getting together again at the club’s awards night on Friday.

“Everyone is still on a high and enjoying the week as it progresses,” he said. “Everyone is looking forward to getting back together and sharing more stories.”

Sydney have to prepare for another game before the off season, a clash against English giants Liverpool on May 24. Then they’ll enjoy a well-earned break, but Simon says everyone is already determined to build on what they’ve achieved.

“We’ve set the standard now with what we’ve done this year and all the records we broke — we just want to continue on that path and have a really successful season,” he said.

“We’ve got the Asian Champions League next year as well, so we’re really looking to give that competition a shake-up. The boys are really looking forward to it and determined to have future success with the club.”
