In-demand Wellington striker Roy Krishna in the sights of Sydney FC

Golden Boot contender Adam Le Fondre is already firing up front for Sydney FC, but the A-League glamour club is eyeing off a superstar partner from next season.

With 18 goals this season, and 50 in 120 appearances for Wellington overall, it’s no surprise that the list of suitors aiming to secure Roy Krishna’s services next season is fairly long.

At the head of the queue is Sydney FC, we hear, keen to combine Krishna with Adam Le Fondre next season in a small but perfectly formed Sky Blue spearhead.

Sydney are looking at a remodelled strike force for next year, with skipper Alex Brosque retiring and the futures of Siem de Jong and Reza Ghoochannejhad uncertain.

Both are on loan and likely to return to Holland and Cyprus respectively, leaving both vacancies and budget for Steve Corica to play with.

But to say that Sydney face competition for Krishna would be an understatement, with Melbourne Victory, Adelaide United, Newcastle and Central Coast all interested in the speedy Fijian.

Naturally the Phoenix are doing their best to keep the revitalised player who’s also notched four assists from 25 A-League appearances to help the Phoenix to the verge of a top-four finish, with Krishna also apparently considering a move to Asia.

It came a little late for Easter, but Oriol Riera has had his version of the Last Supper with Western Sydney.

On Wednesday, next to the long jump pit by an athletics track in Rooty Hill, the Spanish striker served his Wanderers teammates and coaching staff a meal ahead of his last game for the club.

We hoped tapas might have been on the menu but are reliably informed Riera cooked a BBQ with salad, decent fuel for Saturday's final-round clash with Melbourne Victory.

Northern Territory prodigy Shadeene Evans is still going places. Specifically Myanmar, after the 17-year-old was selected for her first international tournament with the Young Matildas. Evans, who three years ago moved 3000km to Sydney from her tiny hometown of Borroloola on a John Moriarty Football scholarship at Westfields Sports High School and the NSW Institute of Sport, is one of 23 players heading to the second qualification stage of the 2019 AFC U-19 Women’s Championship, another tournament from which they’d then hope to qualify for the 2020 FIFA under 20 Women’s World Cup.

“When I first joined the John Moriarty Football grassroots program ... I never imagined I’d go on to play an international tournament with the Young Matildas,” Evans said.

“It is creating a lot of opportunities for me and for the young kids in my community in the Northern Territory.

“I’m excited to be part of the Young Matildas squad and can’t wait to run out on the field in Myanmar next week.”

Kevin Muscat is old school, and not a fan of too much emotion.

So when the news broke about Alex Brosque’s imminent retirement, and a bunch of players put tributes on social media (including Adrian Mierzejewski, Mark Rudan and Milos Dimitrijevic), Muscat sent Brosque a private text message, simply wishing him the best for the future.

We assume he means from the end of this season on …

Breaking news from the Wanderers, where despite the formal — and well-deserved — farewell for Mark Bridge on Saturday, it seems the veteran striker will play on.

In the NPL 2, that is. Confidential understands that Bridge will be upfront for Mounties Wanderers for the rest of this season, joining familiar ex-A-League faces including Sean Rooney and Jacob Poscoliero

Assuming Bridge gets on the park against Melbourne Victory on Saturday, it will leave him with 251 A-League appearances — tied with Vince Lia for 10th most in the competition, though Lia plans to play on next season.
