THEY’RE up against an English Premier League powerhouse but Alex Brosque wants Sydney FC to push Arsenal all the way at ANZ Stadium on Thursday night.
Sydney will play in their new sky-blue kit, launched on Wednesday in Bondi just a few hours before Arsenal launched their third kit in Sydney.
The Sky Blues skipper is well aware these friendly games are for the fans and the result is not necessarily important but he hopes his team puts on a spectacle in front of over 80,000 supporters at the stadium, despite having only just returned to training.
“Normally we start a bit slower than Arsenal straight up, which is going to be tough,” he said. “They’re in the same boat as us, they’ve just started up this week. Hopefully we can give them a good run.
“They’ll be trying to put their best foot forward before the start of the Premier League.”
It’s the A-League champions’ first game since they took on Liverpool at the end of last season. They’ll be hoping to improve on that performance, but given their season had long finished it was tough for them to lift for that game.
Star player Milos Ninkovic missed that match, but he’s back and ready to try and replicate the success he achieved last season — as hard as that will be.
Ninkovic took home all the awards last season after he guided the Sky Blues through a record-breaking campaign.
“It’s going to be hard, but we need to forget everything from last season. This is a new season,” he said. “We just work hard in preseason and play like we did last year.”
