A HEALTHY diet of fresh fruit and vegetables is proving the recipe for success for Adelaide Strikers teenage bowler Darcie Brown.

The 18-year-old, who claimed just the sixth hat-trick in WBBL history last month, likes nothing more than eating bananas or apples before a game, as well as broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and potatoes during the week.

“Having a well-balanced diet as an athlete enables you to recover faster and have energy to back up with training and games while being happier and healthier,” she said.

“Fruit and veg makes you strong and healthy, so eating plenty of it is one of the most important things you can do.”

Brown, one of the most promising young fast bowlers in the country, learnt the importance of fresh fruit and vegetables from a nutritionist.

The benefits of healthy eating will be celebrated by players and fans during the inaugural Woolworths Pick Fresh, Play Fresh Round, a new initiative for WBBL|07, which aims to inspire children and parents to fuel their bodies with more fresh fruit and vegetables.

Woolworths nutritionist Felicity Curtain said healthy eating was important to support growth and development in children.

“Each kind of fruit and veg is unique in the nutrients it provides, so including a wide range throughout the week is a great way to enjoy their benefits,” she said.

The round is at Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay, Queensland on November 13 and 14. Each club will be aligned to a nominated fruit or vegetable matching their colours.

Woolworths is also donating $500 for every six hit during the round, with money going to local community clubs nominated by each team.
