Moves are underway to bring back superstar batsman Chris Gayle to Big Bash cricket this summer — and it has the blessing of popular Channel 7 presenter Mel McLaughlin.
The West Indies blaster hasn’t played in the competition since he rudely spoke to McLaughlin in a TV interview while playing for the Melbourne Renegades in 2016.
Gayle’s “don’t blush, baby” remark went viral around the world and Gayle was unofficially banned from future tournaments.

But McLaughlin told The Sunday Telegraph: “He’s been a great entertainer and I’m sure cricket fans would love to see him back.”
The Big Bash desperately needs a shot in the arm after going stale in recent seasons.
Broadcaster Fox Sports is keen for him to return, especially following news that champion South African AB de Villiers won’t be coming back to play for Brisbane Heat. The tournament is in desperate need of big-name recruits.
“We would love to have Chris Gayle back here,” Fox Sports cricket boss Matt Weiss said.
“He’s apologised for his behaviour and it’s probably time to move on. He’s a superstar and he’ll set the comp alight.
Now 41, Gayle has been on fire in the IPL with scores of 53 (45 balls), 24 (21), 29 (13), 20 (20) and 51 (29).
