Unbelievable Western Australia collapse

A stunned Western Australia coach Adam Voges has described his shock after witnessing his side crash to the second-lowest total in Australian domestic 50-over history.

after losing eight wickets for one run in a crazy hour of cricket on Friday.

Powerhouse WA, which has won five of the last seven titles, lost eight wickets for jus one hour in a crazy of cricket on Friday, collapsing from 2-52 to be all out for 53 against Tasmania at the WACA.

It was the lowest 50-over total in Western Australian history and worst since 2003, when South Australia was demolished for 51 by Tasmania.

In-form all-rounder Beau Webster, named in Australia A’s line-up to play India, claimed 6-17 off 5.4 overs as the Warriors crashed from 2-52 to all out for 53.

Webster, last year’s domestic player of the year, has been touted as a potential Test bolter with Cameron Green ruled out of the upcoming five-match home series against India through injury.

The 30-year-old also scored a century in the Tigers’ opening Shield game of the season against Victoria, which ended in a draw.

Voges revealed WA would have bowled first but “weren’t disappointed” to be sent in to bat.

“At 1-45 we thought we’d done the hard work, unfortunately that proved not to be the case,” Voges said.

Incredibly, the batters from no.5 to no.10 in the hosts’ line-up were all dismissed for ducks. Webster claimed the scalps of Cameron Bancroft, D’Arcy Short, Ashton Turner, Cooper Connolly, Jhye Richardson and Joel Paris.

“Obviously we got done quite heavily in the Shield game, but to respond with a performance like that everyone’s really happy,” Webster said.

“It felt like the ball was nipping around more than it usually does.

“Some conducive conditions no doubt and I feel like they’ve been coming out well, so it was good to get some reward today.

“There was probably more than we thought in the wicket.

“We thought 200 or 250 might be a good score on the wicket, I don’t think anyone had 53 on the cards this morning but we’ll certainly take it.”

Lance Morris was unbeaten on zero.

Former Aussie quick Billy Stanlake took 3-12 during the chaotic collapse.

Tasmania’s wasted no time in the chase, as opened Mitchell Owen belted a four and a six off Jhye Richardson’s first over.

Owen smashed three boundaries and two sixes on his way to a 17-ball 29, and while Morris had him caught out by Cooper Connolly, the damage was done.

Matthew Wade blasted a six and three fours on his way to an unbeaten 21 from 13 balls to have the target reached, and game won, in just 51 balls.

The heavy loss leaves WA needing to win all three remaining One Day Cup games if they want to make the finals.

“I imagine the net run rate takes a pretty bad hammering today,” Voges said.
“We’ve got three (One Day Cup) games left and we have to win them and win them well, I would think.

“You wouldn’t put it past this group with what they’ve achieved, but we’ve certainly made it tough for ourselves.”
