RICKY Ponting, who barely suffered an injury during his playing career, has had his coaching ambitions potentially put on hold after an unfortunate accident while shooting a television commercial.

RICKY Ponting has suffered a torn Achilles from kicking the footy while filming a commercial for one of his sponsors.

The Test legend was scarcely injured during his glittering playing career, but his coaching ambitions might be restricted over the next three-to-six months as he underwent surgery last week.

Ricky Ponting is expected to be restricted in his movements for up to six months.

Ponting is a staunch North Melbourne AFL supporter and a talented footballer in his own right.

Justin Langer had planned to use his former skipper in an increased capacity for Twenty20 and one-day cricket, but that may have to be put on hold for the time being following the unfortunate accident.

Cricket Australia are yet to announce its coaching staff for October’s tour against Pakistan in the UAE, but it was possible Ponting would have been flown over for the Twenty20 component.
