Quick Singles: David Warner’s touching tribute, the GOAT’s latest record and Joe Burns still fumes

Nathan Lyon is already the GOAT – but on Saturday he added yet another accolade to his remarkable CV. Plus, why Joe Burns is still seething over his dismissal and David Warner’s touching tribute to his kids.

David Warner takes his three daughters with him everywhere – even out on to the field.

Warner was sporting boots at the Gabba yesterday with the names of his daughters – Ivy, Indi and Isla – sewed on them.

It appears the Australian opener may have even let his daughters paint his toe nails.

Warner’s wife Candice and their daughters were at the Gabba on Friday, but had to leave before he racked up his 22nd Test century to catch a flight.

Nathan Lyon is officially the greatest of all time. Well, sort of.

Nicknamed the “GOAT”, Lyon has now scored the most Test runs without having registered a half-century.

Lyon took his Test runs tally to 1016 on Saturday, moving past Pakistan great Waqar Younis (1010) in the category of most Test runs without a fifty.

The off-spinner’s highest score is 47 from 119 Test innings.

Lyon is Australia’s third-highest Test wicket taker, having claimed 364 scalps in 92 matches, and was a crowd favourite once again at the Gabba.

Joe Burns is still filthy about being bowled around his legs for 97.

The Aussie opener missed a golden opportunity to rack up his fifth Test century when he was bowled by Yasir Shah on Friday.

Teammate David Warner had warned Burns to play straight to Shah coming around the wicket, but Burns couldn’t resist the temptation of playing his favoured sweep shot and saw him stumps rattled three runs short of a ton.

Burns said he still hadn’t gotten over his dismissal.

“It’s a very bitter feeling and it’s still very bitter this morning,” Burns told SEN Radio.

“There was an opportunity to bat all day again.

“Maybe in a few days (I’ll be over it). Maybe after singing the team song after a Test victory.”

It seems a certainty Burns will be happy some time on Sunday as Australia cruise to a crushing win.

He may have been born in South Africa, but Marnus Labuschagne is now a Queensland hero.

Labuschagne’s 185 was the best Test score by a Queenslander since Matthew Hayden’s famous 380 against Zimbabwe in 2003.

Labuschagne pipped Bulls teammate Matthew Renshaw’s 184 against Pakistan at the SCG in 2017.

Queensland has produced some good batsmen since “Haydos” and Labuschagne looks set for a long career following his past few performances in the baggy green.

Test great Allan Border has a simple way to fix cricket’s no-ball crisis – stop showing them on television.

Border, a former Australian captain, told Fox Cricket he wants the cameras to stop filming and broadcasting bowlers overstepping the line.

Border admitted he may be old-fashioned but he reckons there is enough technology in the game and the no-ball craze is causing huge issues.

Pakistan youngster Naseem Shah had David Warner caught behind on 56 only for replays to show he overstepped the mark. Warner went on to make 154.

At least 21 no-balls went undetected by the umpires on Friday and only would have been discovered if a wicket had fallen.
