LABUSCHAGNE’S HONOUR
The acknowledgments keep rolling in for Marnus Labuschagne with the star Australian batsman being awarded the Young Cricketer of the Year.
Labuschagne and 20-year-old leg spinner Georgia Wareham were recognised by Australia’s cricket writers and broadcasters at the SCG in Sydney.
The South African-born sensation is a fan favourite with the Sydney faithful following his maiden double-century on Saturday.
PAINE’S HUMOUR
The sober nature of the Test match never gets in the way of Australian captain Tim Paine’s sense of humour.
When New Zealand’s Colin de Grandhomme was run out by centimetres, several Australian outfielders didn’t initially bother joining the celebration huddle as the third umpire reviewed the decision because they didn’t think it was out.
When the big screen proved otherwise and players swept in from everywhere, Paine playfully shooed them away with his gloves as if to say: “Why are you blokes here to celebrate, you didn’t think it was out”.
