Jake Fraser-McGurk eyes Baggy Green and Test format instead of T20 circuit riches

Despite smashing 70 off 37 balls in a man of the match performance for the Melbourne Renegades, Jake Fraser-McGurk has eyes on the longer format of the sport.

Amid the transformational offers tabled to T20 players around the world, one of Australia’s brightest white-ball prospects has declared the Baggy Green remains at the forefront of his ambitions.

Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has rapidly caught the attention of Australian’s through his actions against the white ball, has pledged his allegiance to the longer format.

The 21-year-old said his form in the shorter format, nor the riches of the T20 circuit, have altered his ambitions

“The goals stay the exact same, I want to play Test cricket for Australia, that’s my main goal,” McGurk said after belting 70 off 37 balls for the Melbourne Renegades.

“If that happens, if it doesn’t happen, so be it, but that’s what I strive towards.”

Fraser-McGurk’s comments came just hours after Australian Cricketers’ Association boss Todd Greenberg expressed fears Australia could lose players to T20 competitions.

“We’re already seeing countries all over the world and particularly in New Zealand, South Africa, where that’s already happening,” Greenberg told this masthead.

“And so my message is, ‘it’s not happening here at the moment, and it might not feel like it’s gonna happen here at the moment, but it’s happening in other countries in our sport.’

“So we’d be crazy not to think that those pressures aren’t going to be applied to us at some point in time. So we’ve got to have this conversation now. Make sure we’re ready.”
