The Indian cricket team has turned on each other after being broken apart by the stresses of a shock loss to Australia.
In one of the fruitiest exchanges ever captured on stump mic audio, Indian star Ishant Sharma tears strips off teammate Ravi Jadeja in a threatening exchange which took place during day four.
Indian captain Virat Kohli looked straight through Tim Paine when the pair shook hands after play on Tuesday, but the war he tried to wage against Australia has spilled over into his own camp.
Adding to India’s selection crisis, they’ve also been left reeling by revelations that pace spearhead Sharma angrily ordered spinner Jadeja not to “talk bullshit” as he threatened to “shove your anger up your ass”.
This is the animated and aggressive exchange translated from Hindi between Sharma and sub-fielder Jadeja which prompted teammates to intervene:
Sharma: “Don’t wave your hand at me. If you want something, come to me and say it.”
Jadeja: “Why are you saying so much?”
Sharma: “Don’t wave your hand at me. Don’t take out your anger on me. I’ll take your anger and shove it up your ass. I will shove your anger up your ass.”
Jadeja: Inaudible.
Sharma: “Don’t tell me also. Don’t talk bullshit.”
Sharma and Jadeja are reportedly friends, but it’s understood there are surface tensions in the Indian dressing room lingering below the surface.
Indian players claim they’re motivated by Kohli’s aggression and all-encompassing power, rather than being left with the feeling they’re always walking on egg shells.
On the eve of the Test match leaked emails were published in Indian media claiming that Kohli had lobbied for the sacking of former coach Anil Kumble to open the way for Ravi Shastri to get the top job.
The blow-up between Sharma and Jadeja – who had a heated spat with Matthew Wade and Steve Smith during last year’s series in the sub-continent – raised eyebrows for Test great Ricky Ponting in 7 commentary.

“Anything could have led to that. It could have been something that happened the night before. It’s not necessarily something that’s happened on the field that day,” said Ponting.
“They were certainly animated weren’t they. Had to be separated, a lot of finger pointing. As we’re hearing, there is some audio we can’t even play.”
Kohli said he had no regrets about his behaviour in the Test match, denying at the press conference that he had shown displeasure in the claimed catch decision that turned the game.
“I don’t think I showed any displeasure at the dismissal at all,” said Kohli.
“It was done. Australia played better cricket than us, and deserved to win.”
Kohli said the tone of sledging was far more aggressive back in 2014 when India last toured and refused to divulge what was said on the field.
“It’s a competitive spirit. It stays on the field. I’m not going to go into details,” he said.
“To be honest it’s not important enough for me to speak on. It’s something that’s done.
“As long as there’s no swearing out there on the field and there’s no personal attacks, the line doesn’t get crossed.”
India are alarmed over out-of-form openers Murali Vijay and Lokesh Rahul after teenage sensation Prithvi Shaw was ruled out as a replacement option due to an ankle injury.
There are still concerns over whether leading spinner Ravi Ashwin (side) will be fit to return for Boxing Day after being ruled out of Perth and India may be second-guessing themselves over selection after making a blunder in not picking a recognised spinner, like Jadeja, for the second Test.
