AUSTRALIA captain Michael Clarke has been ruled out of Saturday night’s World Cup opener against England, but coach Darren Lehmann says he’s shaping as a certain starter for game two against Bangladesh.
Lehmann says there are a series of small tests for Clarke to pass before he meets his deadline on February 21 – and they primarily concern fielding drills.
However, Clarke has already passed his biggest test, with three hit-outs now under his belt.

Clarke pulled up well from scoring a classy 64 in Wednesday night’s warm-up game against the UAE, but it will be George Bailey who leads Australia into battle at the MCG on Saturday.
“He pulled up very well and no he’s not playing Saturday,” Lehmann said on Thursday.
“We’re happy with the way he pulled up and really happy with his progress. We’re going to stick to the plan and he’ll play against Bangladesh.
“The way he batted, ran, fielded, bowled, he ticked all the boxes, so he’ll have a good solid week and get prepared for Bangladesh.”
