‘Historic moment for the state’: Moises Henriques to become the first man to play 100 domestic 50-over games for NSW

He’s been one of the state’s most loyal servants in all forms of the game, so it’s fitting that Moises Henriques will achieve something no other male NSW player has done before.

Top six will stay the same for NZ test

A week after falling short in the BBL final, Moises Henriques will create history in the Marsh Cup, with the former Test representative set to become the first man to play 100 domestic one-day matches for the Blues.

Thursday’s match against Western Australia will be a double celebration, with Henriques turning 37 that day and looking to bounce back after a heartbreaking loss with the Sixers against the Heat.

Henriques was dealing with Covid during last week’s loss at the SCG but is on the mend and will play a key role if the Blues are to beat WA for the second time this season and potentially join them at the top of the table.

The Blues stunned the ladder leaders at Cricket Central in Sydney back in November and have named a strong squad, with spinner Tanveer Sangha returning after he missed the start of summer while on international duty.

“Moises has been a stalwart of NSW cricket and the Blues for well over a decade, and to become the first Blues player to feature in 100 domestic one-day matches will be a historic moment for the state,” Cricket NSW chief of cricket performance Greg Mail said.

“We saw in the BBL that he is still playing as well as ever and congratulate him on the achievement.

“This match also sees the return of Tanveer Sangha after international duties and we are looking forward to welcoming him back into the squad as he continues to develop into a world-class spinner.”

NSW captain Henriques becomes the 17th man to play 100 domestic 50-over games, with the Blues veteran still dominating this season with 242 runs at an average of 80.66.

Only boom youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk has hit more sixes than him this season, with the Blues eyeing off a third win on the trot before their attention turns to Saturday’s Sheffield Shield clash at the WACA.
