Georgia Voll has replaced injured Australian captain Alyssa Healy four times and could do so in the one-off Ashes Test

All four of Georgia Voll’s internationals have come due to injuries to the Australian captain who remains under a cloud to see out the Ashes.

Alyssa Healy’s pain has proved to be boom batter Georgia Voll’s gain, and the 21-year-old says she’s feeling increasingly comfortable at international level as the fitness of the Australian captain for the remainder of the Ashes remains under a cloud.

All of Voll’s four internationals, which included making a century in just her second ODI against India last December, have come about because of injuries to Healy, who is now battling a serious foot issue that could force her to miss the historic day-night Test at the MCG to finish the multi-format series against England.

Whether Voll, who has quickly accumulated 194 runs for her country, including a quick-fire 21 off 10 balls in her first T20 at the SCG on Monday, holds her spot for the Test match remains a question yet to be answered by selectors.

They delayed naming the squad for the Test match, pending more information on Healy and the recovery from a calf injury by Ash Gardner, who is again the world’s top-ranked all-rounder after her maiden international century last week in Hobart.

Selectors said there was no need to “rush” naming the Test squad, as Australia had secured an 8-0 points lead, enough to retain the Ashes even should England win the remaining three games, starting with Thursday’s second T20 in Canberra.

Voll was none the wiser on Healy’s fitness but said she would, as she had done four times this summer, happily “do the job” as needed having shown herself to be more than capable.

“We don’t really know where’s Midge’s (Healy’s) fitness is at yet, but I’m more than happy to try and do a job up the top of the order,” Voll said.

“I love batting there and batting up the top with Beth Mooney was pretty cool (in the T20).

“I’m more than happy to fit in wherever the team needs.

“I was happy just running drinks and being around the group, but my debut at the SCG was pretty special, and to get my cap from Phoebe Litchfield was pretty cool as well.”

Voll has been urged by coaching staff to play “my natural game”, which is hard striking, and it has helped yield more than 1200 WBBL runs.

Her opening partner, Mooney, said the Aussies would treat Thursday’s clash “like we are on zero points” given the intent is to win every match of the Ashes against an English outfit that has fielded poorly and failed to match the home team’s batting and bowling.

Voll echoed those thoughts ahead of Thursday’s match at Manuka Oval.

“It’s a bit of a relief to be able to retain the Ashes last night but we’re not finished yet,” Voll said.

“We’ve got a couple of big games coming up, so hopefully we can get another couple of wins.”
