HE IS the glamour spinner with the glamorous girlfriend who is now more than ready to play a glamour role for Australia’s T20 side.

Sydney Thunder had a forgettable end to their Big Bash League on Wednesday, but the form of Chris Green was one of the real positive aspects to come out of the campaign.

The man who was once jokingly warned by NSW skipper Paul Gallen to steer clear of his wife, “because she loves you’’, is in the selection mix for the three T20s against Sri Lanka next month.

The South African-born off-spinner finished the BBL with seven wickets at 28, but bowled plenty of overs during the daunting power play.

While Adam Zampa will be the first spinner picked, Green said he would welcome the chance to take on Sri Lanka.

Thunder teammate Fawad Ahmed finished with nine wickets at 22, but turns 35 next month, while Brisbane gin tweaker Mitch Swepson will be unavailable for the T20 series because of his shock call-up to the Indian Test tour.

“Everyone dreams of playing for Australia, Adam has had fantastic games of late for Australia, and owns the spot as the short-form spinner in one-day and T20 cricket, so it will be tough to knock him off his perch,’’ Green told The Daily Telegraph.

“But I’ll definitely put my hand up as best I can to play a supporting role to him if they want to go with two spinners. Hopefully I can offer something with the bat and in the field as well.

“If the selectors do make that call, it would be a dream-come-true moment. I’m just honoured to have been come up in (debate) about possible selection.’’

National selector and Thunder “governor” Mark Waugh is one important fan of Green’s talents.

The 23-year-old said he had benefited this summer from a sense of belief, an ability to “remain in the moment’’, and not lose his cool in situations when “it’s only natural as human beings we could boil over’’.

Green should have had the vital wicket of Strikers ace Ben Dunk on Wednesday night, only for him to be dropped and go on to make a matchwinning 65 off 40 balls.

He rolled his right ankle and could not bowl his fourth over, but it was nothing major, and will return to grade cricket as Northern District captain this weekend.

Meanwhile, Gallen is sure to love this photo of Green with his girlfriend Bella Wagschall.

After being presented a bat by Green’s NSW teammates before Origin III last winter, Gallen pointed the bat at Green and told him “to stay away from my wife’’.

“She loves you,’’ Gallen quipped.

Green described the experience as “intimidating’’.

Wagschall had never watched a game of cricket before she met Green, and thought the game was nothing more than a ‘’hobby’’ to her new man.

The 19-year-old performing arts student agreed he was the best-looking BBL player, and added “he’s the only player I look at when he’s playing’’.
