KFC SuperCoach BBL: Play of the Week, Round 3

From Glenn Maxwell’s incoming price jump to Sean Abbott’s dominance, the stars are leading the way in BBL11.

Some of the Big Bash’s biggest names are dominating as we near the midway point of the season and that has translated to KFC SuperCoach.

Check out the key stats for the festive season to help you enjoy a Merry Christmas and head into the new year charging up the KFC SuperCoach rankings.

Rashid Khan has a great record against the Heat.

1. RASHID’S RECORD AGAINST THE HEAT

Brisbane Heat was 5-15 against Sydney Thunder and the task isn’t about to get any easier for its batsmen. The Heat are up against Adelaide Strikers and Rashid Khan in Round 5, who averages 91.75 KFC SuperCoach points in his matches against Brisbane. The star spinner scored 101 points last season against Brisbane and those who traded him out during the Round 3 bye will need to strongly consider bringing him back for Round 5, especially after his ton against the Sixers.

2. SAMS READY TO RETURN TO BEST

Daniel Sams hasn’t hit the heights of the past two seasons for Sydney Thunder, or KFC SuperCoaches yet. But his record against his former club Sydney Sixers should have coaches bullish. Sams averages 88.6 points against the Sixers and posted 126 points in BBL10 during the Sydney smash. If you’re eyeing him at his cheapest price of the season, this might be it. That is pending predicted rain in Sydney of course.

Glenn Maxwell could soon cost $250k in KFC SuperCoach.

3. MAXWELL TO ECLIPSE $200K

Glenn Maxwell has one of the lowest breakevens in KFC SuperCoach at -48 and is primed to rocket above $200k in Round 5. Coming off a monster score of 237 points in Round 3, the Stars skipper next faces teams he has enjoyed a formidable record against in Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat. Maxwell averages 82.71 against the Hurricanes and 102.8 against Brisbane, so a price in excess of $250k heading into the new year is not out of the question.

4. ABBOTT ONE OF THE FORGOTTEN STARS

Sean Abbott is about to become one of the ultimate PODs in KFC SuperCoach BBL. The Sixers star is now the leading wicket-taker in BBL history and scored 180 points when he last played against Sydney Thunder. The Sixers play Brisbane Heat in Round 6 and Abbott also registered triple figures in his last outing against them, scoring 103 in BBL09.

Alex Hales has enjoyed past success against the Sixers.

5. HAS HALES BOTTOMED OUT?

Plenty of KFC SuperCoach teams have been waiting for Alex Hales' price to fall after he started the season at more than $180k. Their patience will soon be rewarded as Hales price heads toward $100k ahead of favourable match-ups for the English master blaster. Hales averages 76 points against the Sixers (89, 155 and 50 last three games), 80.67 against Perth Scorchers (20, 26 and 127 last three). If you’re considering jumping on, Round 5 might be the perfect time.

6. MEREDITH SENDS A TIMELY REMINDER

He only bowled one over on his return from injury, but Riley Meredith wasted no time reminding KFC SuperCoach teams of his quality. Hopefully the light approach will have him primed for the Round 6 double, when Meredith looms as a great point of difference selection. He has averaged more than 65 points against each of Hobart’s next two opponents, the Stars and Strikers. He has gone nine, 58 and 107 points in his last three against the Stars and scored 93 in his last match against Adelaide.

Nathan Ellis is one of the best unique picks for the Round 6 double.

7. SHORT DOMINATES ROUND 6 PICKS

Hurricanes opener D’Arcy Short is comfortably the most-popular player with the Round 6 double who already features in KFC SuperCoach teams. Short was in 44.2 per cent of teams as of Round 4, with cheapie Josh Kann (39 per cent) the only other Hobart or Brisbane player above 25 per cent. Chris Lynn remains the most-popular Heat player at 23 per cent despite his form struggles. At the other end of the scale, consistent quick Nathan Ellis is still only in 6 per cent of sides.

8. HOW DO YOU GET MAXI BACK?

Bringing Glenn Maxwell back ahead of his huge price rise is going to be a priority for 9.7 per cent of KFC SuperCoach teams who traded him during the Stars’ Round 4 bye. Marcus Stoinis (17.5 per cent), Tom Curran (15.5 per cent) and Adam Zampa (13.1 per cent) were the only players to feature in more trades. If you don’t get Maxi back for Round 5, you’ll be paying more than $200k for him.

Liam Guthrie will enjoy a steep price rise when he next plays.

9. SILVER LINING FOR GUTHRIE OWNERS

Liam Guthrie’s owners would have been frustrated when he was dropped despite producing one of the most economical spells in Brisbane Heat history in Round 3. But the silver lining is the next time he plays the left-arm quick is projected to jump in price by more than $27k. That will make it a hard call to trade Guthrie if he remains on the outer after being the X-Factor in Round 4 when Mark Steketee returned.

10. LYNN’S PRICE IN FREE FALL

Chris Lynn is another batter who started above $150k set to be available for much cheaper in the Round 6 double. Lynn’s top score in the first four rounds of KFC SuperCoach was 57 and he posted nine and 27 during the Round 1 double. It seems a matter of time before the No. 1 run scorer in BBL history turns his form around, but will it come soon enough for the double? If he’s close to $100k as projected, it might be too good to pass up.

11. STATS PROVE RICHO’S MARVEL DOMINANCE

KFC SuperCoaches have long marvelled at Kane Richardson’s dominance under the Docklands roof. And, the KFC SuperCoach stats prove just how formidable the new Renegades skipper is at home. Before the Renegades’ Round 4 fixture, Richardson was averaging 92 points a match at home. The good news for those with Richardson in their teams is the Renegades have another two games at home after their meeting with Perth in Round 4 due to the hard WA border.
