Peter Siddle looms as a priority target for Adelaide Strikers’ Round 12 double after emerging as one of the BBL’s most lethal death over bowlers.

The former Australian quick, who announced his retirement from international cricket during the Boxing Day Test, has 10 wickets in seven matches for the Strikers in BBL09.

Seven of those scalps have come between overs 16-20, placing Siddle behind only Sydney Thunder’s Daniel Sams and Sydney Sixers’ Tom Curran for wickets in the last five overs of an innings.

Siddle’s seven wickets remarkably account for half the wickets taken by Adelaide between overs 16-20 in eight matches.

Fellow paceman Harry Conway and Cam Valente (two) are the only other Strikers with more than one wicket in that period of matches.

Siddle skittled Melbourne Renegades’ lower-order order during their recent clash, claiming the wickets of Samit Patel and Dan Christian in the 17th over.

He also helped Adelaide seal a five-run win over table-topping Melbourne Stars on the Gold Coast, removing Glenn Maxwell in the 18th over and Ben Dunk from the penultimate ball.

Siddle was available for $145,700 before Round 9.

Curran and Sams are the top wicket-takers between overs 16-20 with eight, while Haris Rauf and Ben Dwarshuis have matched Siddle’s effort of seven.

Dwarshuis and Curran feature twice in Round 10 and should be popular after performing strongly in previous doubles.

Sams, the BBL’s leading wicket-taker after Round 8, has enjoyed success in the last over of innings mixing yorkers with his tricky slower ball.

Tom Curran has been one of the most prolific death bowlers in his two seasons in Sydney.
