Melbourne Stars opener Nic Maddinson will miss his side’s clash with crosstown rivals the Melbourne Renegades with a shoulder injury.
Maddinson suffered the injury in Wednesday night’s clash with the Sydney Thunder and is currently undergoing further assessment.
It comes as a blow to those who traded in the out-of-form batsman ahead of the Stars’ double game round. Maddinson managed just 16 points against the Thunder in an unconvincing batting display. He never looked comfortable at the crease during his innings before he was convincingly run-out for 13 off 12 deliveries after taking a horror second run,

The injury compounds the loss of Pete Handscomb and Adam Zampa to international duties.
Keeper Seb Gotch and youngsters Lance Morris and Sam Elliott have been added to the Stars 13-man squad.
Will dumped veteran Ben Dunk take the gloves, or will the Stars opt for the returning Gotch?
RENEGADES LOSE STARS
The Renegades have made four changes to their squad, headlined by the absence of Aussie stars Aaron Finch and Kane Richardson. The pair are currently in India for Australia’s three match ODI series.
Tom Andrews and Andrew Fekete also make way, with Tom Cooper, Joe Mennie, Jack Wildermuth and new signing Luke Robins added to their 13-man squad.
BBL STARS PLAY BEFORE INDIA SERIES
Several Australian ODI players will play in the Big Bash on Wednesday before travelling to India for their imminent ODI series.
Adelaide Strikers skipper Alex Carey and Sydney Sixers paceman Josh Hazlewood will play in the evening clash at Adelaide Oval, while Stars duo Adam Zampa and Pete Handscomb have been named for their side’s match against Sydney Thunder.

It means SuperCoaches won’t have to scramble to trade out Carey and Hazlewood before Round 7 lockout.
Their unexpected selection presents a dilemma for SuperCoaches with Zampa and Handscomb as they will play one game in the Stars’ double game round before flying to India.
Do you hold and hope they come up trumps against the Thunder, or look to bring in another Stars gun who has two chances?

It’s worth remembering Haris Rauf (108) and Sandeep Lamichhane (102) scored above 100 despite only playing once in Round 5.
The Aussies begin their three match series on the 14th of January, playing their last fixture on the 19th.
Players are expected to return to the BBL for Round 12 of SuperCoach.

BURNS BACK, NO PATTINSON FOR HEAT
Test opener Joe Burns will feature for Brisbane Heat in Round 7, but those hoping to bring James Pattinson into their SuperCoach teams will have to be patient. Burns has been included in the squad to face Hobart Hurricanes, but Pattinson has been given time to recover after featuring in the last two Tests against New Zealand. The Heat said Pattinson will target their January 11 match against the Scorchers for his first match of BBL09.

WADE BACK, BUT NOT WITH THE GLOVES
Test batsman Matthew Wade will play his first match of BBL09 in the Hurricane’s matchup with the Heat in Brisbane.
While he will take the captaincy reigns from Ben McDermott, he won't take the gloves from his teammate. It means Wade will be in the outfield and will have less scoring avenues than last season, when he the leading wicketkeeper in SuperCoach.
AB DE VLLIERS HERE FOR ROUND 9
Pencil it in your diaries - AB de Villiers will make his Brisbane Heat debut on the 14th of January.
The South African superstar is one of the most prolific T20 players in the world, and the Heat have announced he will play his first Big Bash game against the Strikers in Round 9.
He comes at a hefty price-tag of $225k but contigency plans should be made in advance to nab to the big-hitter.
Afghan wizz-kid Mujeeeb ur Rahman is also expected to join the Heat some time next week, and is another to put on the watchlist. The 18-year-old starred in his debut season in BBL08, claiming 12 wickets with a tidy economy rate of 6.04.

HEAD, LYON LEFT OUT
Returning Test players Travis Head and Nathan Lyon will not feature in the Adelaide Strikers matchup against the Sydney Sixers on Wednesday night.
Head and Lyon were left out of Strikers squad despite the Aussies finishing their Test match against New Zealand a day early.
Alex Carey remained in their 13-man squad.
Cheapie Wes Agar and keeper Harry Nielsen ($75k) are the inclusions, replacing Liam O’Connor and veteran Cameron White.
The Sixers have gone in unchanged.

GUESS WHO’S BACK... BACK AGAIN
Another injury setback for a Melbourne Stars international signing has opened the door yet again for Pakistan speedster Haris Rauf.
Young English quick Pat Brown was set to replace South African superstar Dale Steyn as the Stars’ second international player before he was ruled out for the season with a stress fracture in his back.

Rauf has taken the BBL09 by storm this season as an injury replacement. He currently sits equal third in total wickets despite playing just three matches, claiming 10 scalps at a remarkable average of 7.1.
The lightning-quick paceman boasts the best SuperCoach average in BBL09, posting 114.7 points per game, including a monster 156-point total in Round 2.
It makes Rauf just about a must-have for SuperCoaches ahead of the Stars’ double game week in Round 7.
Rauf is priced at $159.7k and following his 108 point outing in his last match, his price is set to skyrocket.

HENRIQUES MISSES AGAIN
Sixers skipper Moises Henriques is in more than 25 per cent of SuperCoach teams and is the ninth most popular player in the game.
But it is time to trade the all-rounder out.
Henriques was a late scratching for the Sixers’ clash with the Strikers for the most important delivery of his life, and will miss again in Round 7.
The BBL veteran left teammates at training in Coffs Harbour to rush back to wife in Sydney for the pending birth of their first child.
MEREDITH JOINS FAULKNER ON SIDELINES
Emerging paceman Riley Meredith will join injured teammate James Faulkner on the sidelines after being ruled out for the rest of the season with side strain.
Meredith has been the pick of the Hurricanes bowlers this tournament and a promising SuperCoach scorer, averaging 64.5 points per game.
The 23-year-old is in 12 per cent of teams and must be moved on considering his $173.2k price tag.
Faulkner’s replacement Scott Boland posted 84 points in his first match of BBL09 and should keep his spot in the Hurricanes side following Meredith’s injury.
