A shell shocked Hobart will head west to start a three match BBL road swing without one of its most prized assets following a disastrous night at Blundstone Arena.

Star all-rounder James Faulkner _ who has battled severe knee problems for the past several seasons _ broke down with a calf injury after bowling just two overs against Brisbane this evening.

In his absence the Heat torched the Hurricanes’ home fortress, with a previously out of sorts Max Bryant (65 from 36 balls), Chris Lynn (88 not out from 55) and Matthew Renshaw (30 off 17) blasting the visitors to a ground and franchise record 3-212 and the third highest score in Big Bash history.

The total surpassed the previous venue record of 209, notched twice by Hobart and both times against the Heat _ including one successful chase _ but Brisbane got its revenge on route to a crushing 31 run win to breathe life back into its own campaign.

It leaves the Hurricanes precariously placed at 2-3 with a tough road swing against Perth on Sunday, a return bout against the Heat at the Gabba on Thursday followed by a clash with Sydney Thunder next Saturday.

Faulkner was rested after the opening match in Alice Springs due to lengthy travel but looks set for a longer stint on the sidelines after straining his calf, with scans to determine the extent of the injury.

Bryant entered the match having compiled just 24 runs in four innings but exploded with 10 boundaries and two sixes, dominating a 95-run stand with his skipper following the early loss of Tom Banton.

When he departed courtesy of a sharp catch by Clive Rose at cover Lynn continued the momentum, crunching 11 boundaries and three sixes of his own while Renshaw pitched in a handy cameo.

Ben Cutting then finished the innings off with an unbeaten 18, 14 of which came from the final three deliveries off Nathan Ellis, who coughed up 49 from his four overs.

The Heat reached the boundary or cleared it in 19 of its 20 overs in a dominant display of power hitting.

Caleb Jewell (27 from 16) got Hobart’s pursuit off to a slick start, overshadowing D’Arcy Short to propel the side to 46 in the fifth over before he gloved an attempted pull shot behind.

However both Short (25) and Ben McDermott (23) were unable to convert starts and by the time George Bailey walked to the crease with 130 runs still to get the asking rate had ballooned to 13 an over.

Any hopes of a home town miracle evaporated in the 13th over when David Miller _ who two balls earlier was caught at deep mid-wicket only for Max Bryant to step on the rope _ edged the BBL’s all time leading wicket taker Ben Laughlin behind to leave the score 4-111.

Bailey top scored with 28 and Clive Rose chimed in with 27 when the game was over.
