AFTER lying low, banned former Test skipper Steve Smith is back in Australia — and is determined to make amends to a cricketing public he admits he’s let down in a big way.

STEVE Smith is back in Australia and ready to roll his sleeves up as the deposed captain begins his road to redemption.
For the past few weeks Smith has been lying low in New York but yesterday made his first appearance on social media in a month to thank the public for giving him a second chance and his family for their undying support.
Smith posted a photo of he and fiancee Dani back in Sydney and said he wouldn’t be taking his fight to earn back trust for granted.
“It’s great to be back home in Australia. I have had some time away to come to terms with everything and now it’s time to get back into it,” wrote Smith.
“The amount of emails and letters I have received has been incredible and I have been extremely humbled by the enormous amount of support you have given me.
“I now have a lot to do to earn back your trust. To my Mum, Dad and Dani you have been my rock through this and I can’t thank you enough.
“Family is the most important thing in the world and I thank you for your love and support.”
Smith was greeted back by his former coach Darren Lehmann, who tweeted “welcome home mate” in response to the 28-year-old’s post.
Lehmann was also selfless in his welcoming of Justin Langer to his old coaching position, praising Cricket Australia for appointing his former teammate.
