Australia vs India SCG Test Day 2: Cricket world says same thing on Smith drop

Australia had the chance to take huge momentum into day three until Steve Smith decided to jump in front of Usman Khawaja.

Pant & Boland headline chaotic day 2

Steve Smith’s huge dropped chance left honours just about even after an incredible day of Test cricket at the SCG.

After resuming on 1/9 on Saturday in pursuit of India’s first innings of 185, Australia lost regular wickets and ultimately fell four runs short.

Beau Webster impressed with a team-high 57 on debut, while Jasprit Bumrah only managed 10 overs before he was taken for scans on a back injury.

It is not yet known if the Indian skipper can bowl in Australia’s second innings, with Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna picking up three wickets on Saturday in his absence.

Australia could have left India with just three wickets remaining heading into day three, but Smith grassed Ravindra Jadeja nearing stumps when Usman Khawaja looked well placed for a regulation catch.

The series is at boiling point after tensions flared between Indian destroyer Jasprit Bumrah and Aussie teen Sam Konstas in the final over of the opening day and it’s all set up for what will likely be a thrilling finale on Sunday.
