Australia v South Africa T20: Chris Lynn won’t be changing style as Aussie star searches for breakthrough knock

Chris Lynn is refusing to change his aggressive ways and insists he is on the verge of exploding in the international arena as Australia prepare to face South Africa in a T20 clash on Saturday night.

Du Plessis: Aussies can be aggressive

Master blaster Chris Lynn is refusing to change his aggressive ways and insists he is on the verge of exploding in the international arena.

Lynn has the opportunity to kickstart Australia’s summer of cricket in Saturday night’s Twenty20 clash against South Africa at Metricon Stadium.

There will be plenty on the line in international cricket’s first foray to the Gold Coast and Lynn’s future in the green and gold is part of the equation.

The six-hitting Brisbane Heat star is yet to dominate in 18 limited overs appearances for Australia despite being one of the Big Bash League’s most devastating players.

Lynn, 28, posted scores of 11, 44 and 0 in Australia’s recent one-day series loss to South Africa and has a top score of 44 in 14 T20 internationals.

But he is not about to shelve his all-out attack philosophy in order to salvage his international career and said he would go out swinging against the Proteas.

“I don’t think I’ll change at all,” he said.

“I feel like I’m hitting the ball quite well. The runs haven’t been there, but just because you miss out on a couple of innings you don’t change your whole game plan.

“In the Twenty20 format you’re going to come off some nights and other nights you’re going to fail. That’s just the way it goes.

“I still feel I’ve got a lot to offer in international cricket. The dominoes haven’t lined up yet but I think it’s not far off.”

Australian cricket is floundering following last summer’s ball-tampering scandal and recent Test, ODI and Twenty20 series losses.

The one-off South Africa T20 will be followed by a three-match T20 series against India before four Tests against the Virat Kohli-captained India.

While the T20 squad is vastly different to the likely Test team, Lynn said the short-form stars had the potential to set up Australia’s summer.

“It’s huge,” he said of the need to find momentum.

“If we can start that momentum throughout this Twenty20 series (it would be good) because I think the Test series is going to be really challenging against India.

“We want to be out there throwing the first punch and putting them on the back foot because if you drive the game it makes life so much easier.”

A batsman’s paradise is expected at Metricon Stadium with a flat pitch and lightning fast outfield set to deliver 400-plus runs if the weather is kind.

Chris Lynn has proven a real T20 hit with the Brisbane Heat.

“Personally I’d love a Gabba pitch but the reality is it’s probably not going to be like the Gabba,” Lynn said.

“We’re really excited to be playing the first international at a new venue.

“What better way than being on the Gold Coast, Schoolies Week, there’s a good vibe, it’s all happening.”

Australia will face India in the first T20 of the three-match series at the Gabba on Wednesday.
