HARD-HITTING Australian boxer Bilal Akkawy will make his highly anticipated American debut next month.
Akkawy will step into the ring on September 13 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas on a Golden Boy Promotions bout, in what will be the biggest fight of his up-and-coming career.
In a major coup for Akkawy’s team the fight will be shown live on ESPN, giving the young Aussie invaluable international exposure.
Despite the backing of one of the most influential promoters in boxing in Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, Akkawy is still without an opponent for the fight.
The Peakhurst local is facing the same challenge as he did back home in Australia and is struggling to find a challenger willing to take on his ferocious hitting.

Akkawy is currently in San Diego helping boxing great Saul “Canelo” Alvarez prepare for his mega fight against GGG (Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin) as his sparring partner.
He first came to the attention of Alvarez’s camp after they came across some footage of the Sydneysider in the ring on Instagram.
Alvarez’s head trainer Eddy Reynoso was so impressed with what he saw that he hand picked Akkawy to spar with world champion boxer on two separate occasions in preparation for the GGG fight on September 16.
Reynoso, the man who helped sculpt Alvarez into a multiple world champion, has also been assisting Akkawy for his fight next month.
Akkawy is currently ranked 10th and 11th, respectively, on the WBA and IBF super middleweight world rankings.
